I am dissapointed in the GC\'s controller
« on: May 18, 2002, 11:35:19 AM »
I cannot personally understand how some people say that the GC controller is better than the PS2\'s...yes, the anologue sticks on the PS2 are SLIGHTLY too low, and it IS unoriginal, but it is perfect apart from that. However, the Z-Button on the GC is ridiculous, the D-Pad is utterly useless, and the C-joystick is much too small for my liking and slips out of grip very easily. I agree it does fit into the hand nicely, but the D-Pad, C-joystick, and the Z-button are badly placed.....so third party games would suffer, imo. It works a treat on games specially made for GC (which are normally great anyway) but games like Timesplitters2, which would have to use the Z-Button AND the twin joysticks, would really suffer...I couldn\'t imagine aiming with that C analogue stick.

After firing up my new GC last night, I got pretty comfortable with the controller and had little problems with Resident Evil.

Still ridiculously designed.

Whats with the different sized buttons arranged in some silly pattern?

Best controller is still Japanese Saturn.
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

the controller gets a 3.5 out of 5 imo

expecially the shoulder buttons - - way to spongy and the d pad hasnt improved much over the 8 bit nintendo controller

i dont i think i remember this correctly but only 1 R1 button?

yeah and all the buttons are put in some mess order with different sizes

simply put the Play station two controller is the best controller ever imo that is why it stayed the same for the new system why fix it if it isnt broke?

as for play station three i hope they keep the same controller

Spongy?

D-pad hasn\'t improved over the 8bit Nintendo? Nor has any other D-pad. Things like that just don\'t improve. Though it is abit too small.

And it isn\'t an "R1" button. It is the Z button. Agree\'d it is placed in an odd position though.

How can you control Resident Evil, out of interest? Because, I couldn\'t ever imagine using that oddly placed D-pad (my hands are very big) or the analogue stick (because, I think, the controls of RE are more suiter to a D-pad since you rotate around with left and right, if you get what I mean....)

what i mean by spongy is that the button can be pressed down like an inch too much if you ask me

how can you improve the d pad?  make the direction pointers seperate and make them pressure sensitive

I still like that controller the most.  Much better than the PS2 controller IMO.

The PS2 controller is essentially a perfected SNES controller.. thus it\'s better for some genres.

However, some games (like Pikmin) show the uses of the GCN pad. Playing Pikmin with th\' PS2 adapter.. bleh.

I\'m probably wrong, but I think Miyamoto and company designed the controller after that game.
