i personally think it should be heaps higher.. im on 56k and all these avatar\'s bog me down big time  :(

Actually, I\'m all for either 500, or 700 posts AND a 6 month time limit.  I think that there are too many newbs who join, and post a billion threads just to get to 500.  If you check out the hardware forum right now, you\'ll see what I mean.  5 posts in one day by a certain someone...  only 2 of which are relevant at all.  One was a three week old thread that had been perfectly answered and he just added a one word post.  It irks me to see spam dammit!

yeah i think it should be over 500 posts, i got mine when i was at 1000 or something........also have a certan amount of time, but i also think soem rules should be bent if the mmber has been here a long time, but still aint above 500,or has proved himself to be a good member

I think it should be higher too.  Hell, I\'m used to boards where only mods and admins got avatars anyway, so it\'s no big loss here.  

Besides, if it were a time limit, I\'d get around it by having registered forever ago, posted twice, left, then come back years later :)

But maybe bring it up to 800 or so at least.  I have a cable modem, so load times don\'t bother me, but I don\'t like the idea of people getting avatars too quickly.

I like having an avatar for longtime posters.. it adds personality to the person.  However, your workaround is why we need BOTH a six or twelve month minimum, and a 500 or 700 or 1000 post minimum for an avatar.

There will always be Xceptions of course.  People who are an instant hit within the power group of the board, or women get avatars fast.

who cares...a truely memorable person needs not an avatar. :D While it is kinda cool to see the different ones and kinda get some glimpse into the poster, it isnt a big deal to cry about.

And while were discussing avatars, I had that one little white guy dancing as my AIM Buddy Icon and basically everyone in my school thought it kicked ass.
