The problem with this idea is that "The One" Billy Gunn will post a million threads reminding everyone of his stupid fight with Jumpman and how cool he is in an attempt to get \'cool\' votes..

(and that i piss off too many people to get a good score :()

Popularity contests in any capacity are lame.  This voting system will promote just that.  "Oh, i talk to him online a lot, i\'ll give him a 5... but this person i hardly know, i give them a 1."  Only if the system was not anonymous would it work out well.

I\'m not sure I understand you when you say anonymous in this case.

When you vote on any poll, the votes are anonymous unless you vocally express your vote.  They would work the same way in this capacity.  No one would know who gave them a 1, but they just might have one and the reason for it could be as stupid as a post you don\'t agree with in lets say a religion thread, or because a friend of yours on the board told you to give some guy you didn\'t know a 1.  If the votes were not anonymous and you could see who voted what for you, it just might lead to a little bit of courtesy.

You\'ve revealed my plan!!!!! Noooooooooooooooooooo!

You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt.\" - Daniel Hannan

how about have it so that only members with a certain post count can give ratings?  That way we can eliminate many of the problems that newbies would cause.

Yeah, only people with 500 posts or more can participate.

It doesn\'t look like it\'s gonna happen though....
