Jason Jones, Bungie\'s lead designer, says the Xbox Live version of Halo will return to the original concept the studio had for Halo\'s multiplayer.

At its pre-E3 press conference this evening, Microsoft revealed that an online version of Halo is in the works. Jason Jones, lead designer at Bungie, was one of a number of developers that Microsoft had speak on the potential of Xbox Live, and he mentioned that with the service, it\'d be possible to "build the part of Halo that Bungie wanted to do." Given these comments, we can remember back to the original multiplayer plans Bungie discussed for Halo.
After Microsoft acquired Bungie in 2000, the game\'s development turned to focus on the single-player experience. However, back when the game was slated as a PC first-person shooter, Bungie had ambitious plans to develop cooperative team-based multiplayer for Halo. At this early stage, Halo\'s multiplayer was to feature combat between terran and Covenant forces on a massive scale, and players would be rewarded for taking specialized roles such as driving and flying vehicles for teammates. The Halo world itself was envisioned as an enormous world that would allow seamless transitions between environments.

This online version of Halo won\'t be one of the games to ship at Xbox Live\'s launch this fall, and Microsoft hasn\'t yet discussed specifics on the first-party Xbox Live games. We\'ll have details on the Halo online game as they become available.

Yay!

But for those of you waiting for the PC version, this means nothing. :o Since this seems to be coming before the PC version, the PC version will probably get all of these online features anyways, so...

One serious question: what are the chances that Halo Online will run at 60 fps? If Halo Online runs at 60 fps and is online, than that would be really great...

If not, then the PC version does seem more attractive to me and it\'d be free to play online too. :)

... In a very bootleg kind of way. 0_o

This\'ll be better. It\'ll be multiplayer HALO the way Bungie originally wanted it to be.

It\'s probably too early to get a straight answer, but I will ask... But I\'m not getting my hopes high. It\'ll probably stay at 30fps.

Yeah that\'s nice, but we\'re talking massive co-op that\'s in line with what Bungie originally wanted to do.
When all is said and done...the PS2 will be remembered as the console with the best games in Fall 2001.

As would I too, Free=good, and with a Geforce4 halo, will look sweet at 60fps on a bad ass PC.   *me yawns, waiting for bias comments about Xbox online version of halo to be better*

Mouse/KB best combo for FPS\'s,  Xbox pad, not ideal. Thank you have a nice day.

Since there is no guarantee the pc version of halo will ever see the light of day how long will you wait?? And I for one love my fps on consoles.

Sadly I just have no use for online gaming and even though I love halo I will never take it online:(

Stop watching the Spice! Channel.

July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.
