Review of Hi-Rev Tuners
« on: May 28, 2002, 12:18:34 PM »
I caught the show on Speed Channel on sunday evening, and (After waiting through another excruciating Winston Cup Wrapup) I enjoyed it.  An excellent mix of cars, breakdancing, DJs, and two girls dancing with each other!     I really liked that part.  :) :) :)  I can see the demographic Videoholic\'s outfit was going for: YOUNG!  I thought with the breakdancing maybe they were even trying to pull in kids who don\'t have a driver\'s license yet!

The car coverage was interesting, but there was very little time spent on any one car.  I guess that\'s about right for this show.  It was weird to see Ford sponsoring a segment, apparently to market the Focus to young buyers.  I guess that makes sense for them, and I like the Focus so it\'ll be cool to seem some crazy Foci in the future.  I think I saw a very brief image of a Saleen Focus !!???!!  I definitely need to see more of that!

The one thing that annoyed me was that technique where the host addresses a camera, and then the shot cuts to another shakey hand held camera slightly off axis shooting in grainy black and white video.  I know that\'s supposed make the show look young and edgey, but I actually think it\'s just about out of style now.  Definitely almost played out if it isn\'t already.

Apart from that, it was cool.  I\'m looking forward to more Ann Poonkasem interviews!

It\'s a show that will develop with time.  The Saleen Focus will be in an episode.  I shot it, but I don\'t know when it will air.    We are also working on a project car with Ford.  Hence the billboard at the beginning.  Pep Boys doesn\'t have much involvment other than the advertisement.

There is a very diverse mix in the show which has gotten us slammed by the racers.  You can\'t please everyone.  Granted there are some hokey things, but we are trying to put out everything that goes on at these events.  Hence the breakdancing.  Haven\'t been to an event yet that didn\'t have people breakdancing.

It\'s been interesting seeing a show that I wrote the proposal for two and a half years ago come to life.  I am hoping to get into more meaty subjects, but as it stands right now, the first 13 were done real cheap and pretty much center around event coverage.

Glad you cought it.  Luckee said he was going to try and catch today\'s airing on VHS.  We\'ll see...
