Problem with PS2
« on: June 10, 2002, 07:07:56 PM »
oh-oh...my PS2 is starting to give problems. Whenever I put in a disc to boots up, instead of directly going to the game title screen, it goes into the PS2 menu instead(the one with the swirling blue lights) and I have to wait like 20 seconds or more before it manage to read the disc..it also seems to works better when it\'s standing vertically!!!

Sh***t!! I thought SONY fix this problem with PS1 but seems like it still persist in the PS2.

Anyone else having this problem as well??
SONY may have the greatest next-gen console platform in the PS2 but the quality of their hardware SERIOUSLY sux!!!

hell, I may just have to buy an X-Box now that it\'s hacked...maybe someone can make the X-Box runs PS2 games?? (fingers crossed).

Mine is starting to do that, too. It takes like ten years to read the disc...and when it does, the game freezes every so often. I\'ve had mine for almost 3 years now...so I think it\'s on it\'s deathbed. I can\'t can\'t send it back cuz the warranty expired...and I couldn\'t do the infamous "Wal-Mart switch"...they were like...it\'s way too friggin\' old...hehe...:/ Oh well.

Also...it doesn\'t read DVDs as it used to...it just sucks. Mine actually plays worse vertically. I\'m s*** outta luck...I just need to buy a a new one...

I\'ve had this problem twice! When it first happened I was under warranty so I simply just took it back. And whoopie!! Six months later and what-do-you-know same problem. No warranty this time, but I didn\'t get mad. I took it apart and cleaned the lens with alcohol. And it worked fine for awhile. Now everytime it starts acting up I bust her open and give her a good cleaning. Doesn\'t bother me really, as many hours I put on this thing Im not suprised it\'s lens gets dirty. They say you should clean the lens with a cleaner after about 30 hours of use anyway.

Now me and my PS2 have a special agreement worked out. When I want to play a PS2 format disc I have to stand it vertically. I usually let it boot then lay it back down horizontally. When I want to play DVD format games or movies. I simply just leave it lying horizontally and it works fine. I have been doing this for about the past two months and I have had no problems using this method.

If it really starts acting up I\'ll go in and change the voltage on the lens. It\'s not that hard to do I have just never got around to doing it since my method I explained above is working out fine.

Dajo: U know any website where I can get more info on changing voltage in the lens? What does it do anyway?

The Eye: Yes, I know about adjusting the laser might solve the problem, but it isn\'t a permanent solution. After a few months, it\'ll probably come back again...just like my old PS and I quite frankly, have enough of it. And it also waste money on repair every 2or 3 months!!!

Does anyone knows where (website) I can find info on adjusting the laser on the PS2?? Maybe I\'ll just do it myself like the PS.

Here\'s what you do.  Go to the store, Wal-Mart for example, and plunk down the cash to get the new PS2.  Bring it home and switch the serial number or whatever is unique to the system if you\'re feeling sneaky.  Package your broken PS2 into the box so it looks just like the one you just bought, then return it defective for a refund.

That will complete the exchange you\'re rightfully entitled to, in my opinion, seeing as Sony makes such shoddy hardware. *cough* ;]

It worked for my friend, anyway.
