Isn\'t "France are out" the correct terminology?

France as a football team, are a "collective" group of people, whereas France as a country is a singular nation.

In other words, if the country itself were taking part, it would be correct to say "France IS out", but because it is a squad of French representatives, it should be ""France ARE out".


Just a thought, that\'s all.

But then again, what do I know.

I think that if we all just start refering to France as "Cheese eating surrunder monkeys"  we would be better off.

You can keep you ARE and not have to change it to IS...problem sovled..

A team is singular.  Sorry to burst your bubble.  If you can find anywhere that this is not the case then I will certainly admit I am wrong.  I\'m not the most knowledgeable person in the world on grammar by all means.  I do think however I am right on this one though.
