The worst pain that I have ever been in is when I had to have a couple of stitches put in my top lip, WITHOUT any form of painkiller whatsoever.
It\'s going back over 20 years ago now since it happened, but I still remember every single second.
"How did it happen", I hear you ask.
Well, you know as kids, when your parents used to tell you not to play football in the streets? I should have listened to them.
This lad who used to live next door to us, was of the clumsey type (you know the sort of person who could fall over a chalk line?), and he kicked the ball down the street, so we both ran for it as fast as our little legs could carry us, although his little legs were slightly longer than my little legs.
As we got closer to the ball, it rolled under a car, and seeing as I was closer to it than my friend, I was obviousley going to have to slow down first, which I duely did.
Unfortunately for me though, my rather oafish friend didn\'t slow down, and ran straight into the back of me, pushing me towards the back of the car.
*Here\'s the painful bit*
As I got closer to the back of the car, I tripped up, and my top lip hit the exhaust pipe, which then went through my lip like a hot knife through butter. My house was about 50 yards up the street, so I ran home as fast as I could.
*Big mistake*
As a person runs, his/her heart rate increases. As his/her heart rate increases, so the blood runs faster. Which is what happened with me. By the time I got to our front door step, my nice new, white 1982 England world cup shirt was completely covered in blood.
Upon getting to the hospital, I was rushed into a smal room where there were 2 nurses and a doctor waiting to stitch me up.
But because I had never had an aneasthetic (I think that\'s how you spell it), there was a risk that I may have some sort of reaction to it, so it was decided by the doctor that I should\'nt have it.
As the needle went through my lip for the first time, the pain hit me, and in turn I nearly hit the roof, in fact it was only the 2 nurses and my Dad who stopped me from doing so.
In total, I only had 3 or 4 stitches, but each one of them gave me a whole world of unbearable pain.
And if you still need to know just how much it hurt, I nearly broke my neck once, and even that was nothing compared to having stiches in your lip.
