Budd Dwyer was Pennsylvania\'s state treasurer from 1985-87. He was scheduled to appear in front of a federal judge for sentencing for bribery. Dwyer accepted campaign funds from a Computer Technology company in 1984, in exchange for which Dwyer credited the Computer company with an over paid Social Security contract worth $4.7 million dollars. He was facing up to 55 years in prison. During a press conference infront of television crews and newspaper reporters, Dwyer reached into a manila envelope and withdrew a loaded 357 Magnum, put it in his mouth and pulled the trigger. He claimed that he was innocent.
