PS 1 games won\'t work in PS2

Help, just bought a ps2 console.  Bought it used.  PS2 games work fine, DVD\'s work fine but it will not play the playstation 1 games.  Sorry, new here so don\'t know the lingo yet.  Anyone have any suggestions on what might be the problem?  Thanks in advance!

Trying using a cleaning CD or a can of compressed air to clean the lens a little.  If that doesn\'t work, return it and ask for a refund, or at least an explanation as to why it\'s not working.

This is only a hunch, but because you bought it second hand it might not be a PS2 from your country.

It might really be a JAP/AUS/US or EURO PS2 (there are four different numbers for the four different regions, what number is yours?).

I know that there are some chips that will allow you to play PS2 games direct boot, but not PS1. This could be your problem. I would find out from the original owner, and send it back, only cause piracy is illegal and won\'t get you very far.

How do I tell what number it is?  Boy am I new or what?  On the back it says ntsc u/c.  Does that help?  The warranty sticker has not been broken so I don\'t think the inside has been altered.  Thanks for your help.

I\'d say try to get your money back.  The ps2 really isnt something you want to buy used.  I\'m not 100% sure, but I believe the u/c means U.S/Canada.  The japanese models say ntsc/j on them

and PAL is Ausstralia.Maybe your PS1 game is PAL?

PAL is not only Australia, but also all of Europe.

As I said before, there are 4 numbers. There is a US PS2, a UK PS2, a AUS PS2 and a JAP PS2.

You could have anyone of those.
