Your opinion wouldn\'t be based on Boston having the 2nd highest payroll and probably having to cut a lot of good players if they actually had a salary cap now would it?

Dang, I haven\'t been to a game in two years and I finally got tickets for the 7/11 Devil Rays game.  Crap!!!!

I hate it when billionares fight with millionares.  All I want is to be able to fill my tank up with gas.
I wear a necklace now because I like to know when I\'m upside down.

No.

I\'m a Red Sox fan.  There is nothing on this earth that I think could give us all the marbles. :)

I still believe what I posted.

That being said, I do not believe that there should be a salary cap. Baseball and all the other sports are entertainment and should be treated the same. I think the market will decide what these players can be paid.

The thing about a salary cap is it isn\'t designed to limit what players make.  It\'s designed to limit the amount a team can spend overall.  Say there was a 65 million dollar cap.  You could still pay players just as much as they are being paid, you\'d just to spend less on the rest of the team.  This really needs to be done, because small market teams will never make as much as large market teams.  With teams like the Yankees spending so much, there is no way a team from a smaller market could compete with them over the long term if the teams can spend as much as they want.  It isn\'t a matter of the market dictating wages, it\'s a matter of making sure all the teams have a shot.

I hate to say it, but if there is a baseball team in a smaller market than that\'s what they get. Why should a team that has the money not be able to spend it any way they please.

It might not dictate the wages but it will have the same effect.

Simple.  When you only have 9 or so teams that can compete year in and year out, in a 30 team league or something, it gets boring, and people in the small market areas lose interest.  How is it their fault that they are a small market?

And if this goes unchecked, it won\'t get any better.  It will get worse.

Well, it\'s not my fault that they are in a small market.

If I start a business and the market I am trying to attract is to small to keep my business going it\'s my fault.

I see your point. I really do. I\'m not sure what the answer is though.

Well, there are only so many markets large enough to compete.  Unless you\'re proposing we contract to about 8 teams, I think a salary cap is necessary.
