Console Hardware problem
« on: June 22, 2002, 03:43:15 PM »
We purchased a PS2 in December, whereabouts of the receipt is unknown.

Problem:
It is no longer reading the disc\'s. It will sit for about 10 minutes, then give a "Disc read error".

Anyone have this problem. It just happened, it was well ventilated nothing around it or behind it.

It does make some weird noises when it\'s trying to read the disc now, but that\'s all it does.

It was veritical, and we have now tried placing it horizontal

Anyone know how to fix this?

Sony will repair it for free, and it only takes about 3 weeks. I know that seems like a long time, but its better than trying to open it up without knowing what your doing. And c\'mon, cheating wal-mart is just plain wrong.

Cleaning the lens may help, but its not going to solve the problem. The magnets around the lens need to be adjusted, and only Sony is certified to do that. Good luck. :)

Sony will NOT fix it for free, it costs 70 bucks for them to fix it, I believe.

Did you buy it from Best Buy? If you did, and you bought the Replacement Plan (instant gold for PS2 buyers) then it is in their computers. They can find your name and plan in the computer. I would be surprised if you didn\'t buy a plan for PS2, though.

no, if you acutally fight with them about it and make a big deal, under some law, they will have to fix it for free since they made them faulty.

Yep. Because it was due to manufacturing problems, they have to do it for free. Just be sure to mention that fact to them in your e-mail or phone call.

We called sony, and found that it was faulty. They are waiving the 119.00 support fee, and are going to fix it for free.

Thanks, and if anyone else has that problem, call and speak with Jeff.

Here\'s my solution. I\'ve been using it since I got my PS2 and I have never had a problem.

First, grab an old T-shirt that is too small or something.

Second, cover your ps2 when not in play.

Wala! Dust free! No more "disk read errors".

Oh and to cure your problem, buy a CD Lens Cleaner and clean your lens over and over till you think it\'s clean.
.... take the skin and peel and back...

now doesn\'t it make you feel better?

Welcome to the club. Care to join the "Depressed PS2 Owner with Dodgy PS2 that won\'t read the disc Properly" Club??

My advice: go buy an X-Box or a GC..heck even an Atari jaguar. U\'ll not have any of these stupid problems then.

SONY makes the WORST console(in terms of manufacturing quality) ever.  Screw SONY.

Paul, I got one thing to say to you:

Be a f*cking man about it and just try to get it fixed. If it\'s not worth it to you, then fine.. go play your Xbox or GameCube or Dreamcast or whatever but don\'t stand around here whining about it.
