Windows Media/ Quicktime questions

I\'m used to downloading movie clips and such with windows media player. It was cool because I could link clips together, etc. But recently someone in my household (I dunno who) downloaded Quicktime. It sucks! Takes forever to download and I can\'t do anything with it. Some clips require QT, I know. But clips I\'ve seen before with Windows Media now automatically use QT whenever I click on the links for them. Is there anyway to just make my computer use WM and not QT without actually getting rid of QT?

Yes you can. You have to unbind the use of Windows files in the Quicktime properties. Sorry, I don`t have the English version, so I don`t know what it`s called there. Just do a little search in the options menu - it should be there.

Open up Windows Media Player, right click somewhere on the player\'s window, choose Options, and go to File Types to change what WMP will automatically play.
If that doesn\'t work, open up Windows Explorer, go to Tools:Folder Options:File Types, look up the Quicktime files, click Change or Edit, and change what program you want to open it with.  I\'m in XP, so I can\'t do a step-by-step for 9x, since it\'s a different setup.

Though, I\'m surprised you were able to run Quicktime files with WMP.  I don\'t think it\'s ever worked for me.

WMP cannot play .mov files since those are QT specific. WMP however has a few more wmp only file formats such as asx, wma, wmv etc...

And as was posted above, just restore the file formats to wmp.

Well after much tinkering, I finally figured it out. Thanks to all who replyed.

If you\'re wondering what happened, well basically I went to a site that said "click here to see a DMC video clip!". So I did, and Windows Media would automatically open it up and play it for me. I did this with a bunch of other clips, than ran them together with WM. Later, QT was downloaded. When I went back to these sites (I had deleted the clips off WM earlier) to do it again, when I clicked on the link, it would automatically start it with QT. I don\'t know how or why.

But like I said, I took care of it with everyones help. Thanx a lot.
