My Mini V-Rally 3 Review
« on: June 25, 2002, 08:33:02 PM »
Ok, so I picked up V-Rally 3 last night. Its quite good, better then I thought. Here\'s the low-down.

Graphics

Its a very mixed bag. The cars are fantastic, and truly shine. They are certainly up there with GT3. The environments are extremly detailed, and look fantastic. There are certain tracks though that you know they have worked on more so then others. For instance, Finland. The five Finland tracks look very rushed. Lots of pop up and weird looking bits. England and France are another story. Absolutely beautiful fog details, lovely lighting effects and awesome reflections.

Each track can be played at any time of day and with any weather condition (rain, storm, snow, fog, heat wave). This is something very cool, as each time you play the track, it looks different to before.

There is also some wicked fog effects. It stays low to the ground and actually moves along the track, some bits thicker then the other. The cars themselves fully destruct, and its possible to loose all your wheels. You can also fall off cliffs. But bad news, theres no reset. Once you have fallen off the cliff, its game over. Very cool.

There are some framerate issues, particullary with the outside car view. If you use in car cam, then its just fine. Popup is also an issue on some of the rushed courses (mainly Finland and Kenya).

Gameplay

Exactly the same as past V-Rally series. This is not a bad thing. The V-Rally mode is awesome. So indepth and inventive. There is too much in this mode to even talk about. Just buy the game and see for yourself, its that good.

You basically start off as a rookie driver, you get emails from certain clubs wanting you to try out for their team. If you pass the certain trial, they give you a contract. Fail to perform throught the season, and you will get abusive emails from the team saying your failing and loosing it. Do good, and you will get more offers from higher ranking teams, or your current team might boost your budget and give you a better car. Its truly awesome, and very inventive.

This is a totally awesome game. Its very indepth, and requires alot of commitment, as its very difficult.
