The moon landings were not faked entirely, but some of the photographs, video, and samples returned from the moon were faked. They just didn\'t tell us about everything they found there, so a few things had to be "erased" from the photographs. Back in the late 60\'s photographic editing wasn\'t as advanced as it is today, so many modified images were released to the public that can now be easily identified as being tampered with. You can still download these images from NASA\'s website and see for yourself, you just have to know what you\'re looking for because there are thousands of still images posted there.
So what were they worried about revealing? Some hold that the US Government knew about alien observation bases on the moon, and the Apollo missions were set up to investigate. We found more than we wanted, and humans were quickly "warned off" of the moon in no uncertain terms. The Apollo missions were continued through mission 17 to maintain a semblence of normality for the US public, but the following flights were cancelled because of alien intervention.
There is quite a bit of evidence to indiate that our interest in the Moon has never been entirely scientific. Have you ever heard of a Dept of Defense-sponsored satellite program called Clementine, which sent modern high technology imaging equipment to lunar orbit?
