There has been this really annoying SONY NET Mini Disc Player ad on TV for a while now, but I have never really understood it.

It talks about how you can download music off of the Internet in like 20 secs and burn it onto your new mini disc player.

Why is one part of SONY advertising pirating music, yet SONY MUSIC is one of SONY\'s biggest entities? Its like one part of SONY is supporting piracy from another part of their company.

Aren\'t they just shooting themselves in the back? I mean, do they think that people are gonna download music from other labels apart from Columbia/SONY Music???

I know it might sound dumb, but I really think they have no clue.

Oh my god the thread title is going to drive me crazy.  

Please someone change it to "Is" before I die....



They are obviously promoting the gizmo for their service knowing  consumer will do whatever the hell they want with it.  They are just hoping that people use their service.  I assume they have a service anyway where you can pay a small fee for songs.  They get money for people buying the player so they win.

Yes, somehow some company that is huge doesn\'t have a clue.:rolleyes:  Or maybe like Videoholic said, they know they have no control over what the public does so they just promote their product.

As for copying music, there are many free downloads out there, that are athorized by the artist, and the record company.  SO it would be legal.
