Integrated Graphics card
« on: July 09, 2002, 07:02:25 AM »
I got a new graphics card and I cant install it because it must be conflicting with the integrated Graphics card.

When I have the graphics card in the CPU the monitor stays black when I turn it on.

I tryed switching the jumper,  uninstalling the integrated graphics card,  i went to the bios and disabled video memory (changed it from 8 mb to disabled)

what is left?

How do I get rid of the integrated video card?

I never had to get rid of mine on my old PC.  I just installed the new one, AND HOOKED THE MONITOR INTO THE NEW GRAPHICS CARD INSTEAD OF THE OLD ONE.  and then updated the drivers, etc.  worked fine. lol.

I do have it plugged in the new one.

Where is it at in bios?

I have a compaq.

Is it the option that says how much memory to use for video?  It says 8 mb 32mb or disabled.  Is this it?

Remember the video card that came with the pc is integrated

Sometimes the BIOS setting is not simply "disable onboard video card."  Rather, you might actually have to literally tell it which PCI/AGP slot the new video card resides in.  Why not go to the Compaq website and look up the procedure in their support area?  You\'re not the first one who tried to do this.

They dont have the procedure there

I called compaq 2 am in the mourning asking about why their pc wont read my new graphics card.  They said that the onboard video card can conflict with it.  I said how do you get rid of the onboard video card.  he said "you wont be able to do it,  you have to disable it on the mother board"

I find this ridiculous.  Does compaq not expect people to update graphics from 8 mb?  Why not put a simple option on the pc that says \'click here to disable on board graphics card\'?  WHY NOT?

Ill go look around bios again in just a minute

they wont tell me they said they dont recommend me messing with it

the real truth is they are always trying to make a buck.  send it to your local compaq manufacture or whatever and they will do it...pft they will probably pull out 1 part and charge me $100

there would be a jumper on the mobo than that would disable it
i highyly doubt it will be labeled, so youll have to get some sort of schematic or idea which one it is from compaq

I found the jumper.  Do I take it off or what do I do with it?
