File Sharing and you
« on: July 13, 2002, 11:29:06 AM »
Well, now that the RIAA has already shut down Napster, AudioGalaxy, and now is coming after KaZaA (and Morpheus and Grokster), the file sharing scene is kinda, rocky at best.

I use Grokster for various things, like music, music videos, etc etc. But, sometimes I cannot find some stuff (music) through Grokster (I refuse to use Morpheus/KaZaA again) and I\'m running out of alternatives.

I heard WinMX is another alternative. Feedback? I heard the latest version was buggy/slow and it just didn\'t sound promising. But again, I\'m taking it based apon user feedback.

Weeeeeeeeell?!?!?

Oh and please do contribute a dollar to the JM\'s Sweet Avatar Foundation. :D

What are your reasons for not wanting to use Kazaa?

Why dont you people like Kazaa, it works awesome for me.

I actually use Kazaa lite, its spyware free.

the best file sharing program for file availability is eDonkey, I also use that.

Oh, I\'ve used KaZaA lite before, then it told me to upgrade to a newer KaZaA (big mistake) and I was like, what the hell. But, I noticed it was slow and it didn\'t have good search results.

I\'m more in it for the music than anything. I can use Grokster for my software needs.

edonkey is great, it has a bit of a different interface and sometimes it takes a while to connect to a server.  Takes some time to learn how to use it to its full potential too.

And can you think of a better name for a program?

I use grokster too.  I really hope it doesn\'t get shut down.  It\'s the best working program I\'ve used so far.  WinMX is crap.  I tried it, and hated it.  Maybe I should try this edonkey thing though.  I may unfortunately have to switch to it in the future anyway.

Ya give it a try, Dont turn it down just becuase you might not understand it at first

heres some sites

http://www.edonkey2000.com/  <------ for the software

http://www.sharereactor.com <------for files

See theres a difference right there, there are edonkey sites that you can get files off of.  it gives u a url and the file downloads using edonkey.

But do not worry you can also type any search topic into edonkey, then extend to all the servers for maximum results.

I use WinMX. I tried downloading KaZaA, but it says that I\'m missing something that\'s neccesary to run it, and it just doesn\'t work. WinMX works for me, seems to get the job done nearly every time. Of course, I use AIM transfers a whole hell of a lot, too. Songs, files etc, AIM seems to work very, very nicely.
