I need both :( Either that or a new hobby. Maybe I should start up rocketry again. That will keep me from spamming. Or modeling. I could do that again. (not modeling as in posing, modeling as in model planes and stuff like that)

I\'m not going to waste time to prove why this board sucks.  It just does, mostly because of spammers that will remain nameless.

Geez. Calm down man. I\'m sure the boards will get better. Some things that aren\'t spam may look like spam to you but they really aren\'t. They may seem worthless but they aren\'t. Although, most of my crap from tonight was spam. But that is a one night thing. I usually don\'t do something like that very often.

When there aren\'t a lot of people on the boards it gives the illusion that a person is spamming. When I was on my streak, there were no more than 5 people in OT at a time and no one was replying. I usually post that amount on any given day usually. Don\'t let my post average of 7 fool you. I didn\'t post more than 5 a day or even 5 a week during my lacrosse season (March-May)I post between 20-30 posts per day.

Exactly.  You just proved our point.  Because everyone just posts useless bullshit

Believe it or not Titan (and everyone else) there was a time when there were INTELLIGENT DISCUSSIONS taking place in Off-Topic.  The humor was genuine and witty.  The boards will not get better.  Ever.  Even Videoholic, the man who is actually respsonsible (at least in my opinion) for the boards turning into this crap, is now against what is going on.

Read what i wrote on page 1.  People are not content to just read a thread, perhaps laugh and move on.  They, for some reason, feel compelled to post the exact same thing that has been said 20 times before them.  Or post multiple times stating the same thing.  Heck, even the topics are stupid.  Posting every useless article you find on the net, and every useless picture is not what Off-Topic used to be.  This place thrived well before people posted that stuff, purely because there were logical, reasonable discussions.  Members (on a whole) genuinly didnt care for how many posts they had.

Bozco, it has gotten to the same point with me. Console Discussion will still be a home here for you if you need it.  It is the one area where we will NOT be tolerating the kind of shit that goes on everywhere else.  Feel free to contribute as freely as you want.  As soon it will be getting over its teething problems and will have plenty of lively discussion revolving around gaming in general.

I ask this then.  Is there a way to fix what has gone wrong here?  Perhaps a split like what happened with the Console topics.  There could be a section where things like pictures and topics that will lead to spam are posted, and another where spam isn\'t tolerated, and where topics are meant to be genuine discussions.  It seemed to work for the console topics, why not try it again?

Or perhaps just crack down a spam a bit more.  Let people know that they shouldn\'t spam that way, and do something to get the message across.  Perhaps give some sort of embarassing avatar to spammers until they change their ways or something.  Hell, I would have gotten one last night, but it\'s an idea.

If you really think this is a genuine topic, don\'t just run from it.  Try to fix it.

Hrmph.

That idea shock said could work. People\'s post counts would sky-rocket, but it would seperate things, and all these spam arguments probably wouldn\'t happen.

And something that\'s odd. When I get going at N64CC the old members said the board was going to shit. I get going here, same thing happens.

I think the "quick-reply" box only makes matters worse... although I like it alot.

It wouldnt work.  The mods are no longer trying to stop it.  As long as you are having fun, thats all that matters, right?  Off-Topic is beyond repair, and most of the funniest, smartest, and most interesting members already dont bother posting here/cant stand reading the topics here because of the fact that it is one big testosterone induced penis comparing session.

Look at what happens when mods do try to crack down.  SoulGrind came back after a long brerak, closed some threads.. and was FLAMED.  ooseven closes a few threads and is FLAMED.  Do you know how much mass moderation would be needed to completely change the boards back to their glory days?  Even if all the useless threads/posts were deleted there would be such outrage that the boards would be empty, and take months before any sort of discussion started up again.

Besides, we don\'t want members to stop posting altogether.  Everyone is having fun and as long as the spam is confined to Off-Topic (although it does spill over) there shouldnt be a problem.  Except for the fact that, while OT is gaining lots of members everyweek, it is losing some of the best members.

Trying to fix a topic will not help at all either, when after you post you get another 20 people ignoring it and posting "hehe, gee golly that was a funny pic.. I wish my penis was as long and wide as that"

Why would splitting it not work then?  In one section, people would expect spam to be deleted, and spam topics to be moved or closed, so they wouldn\'t be as mad, and wouldn\'t spam so much there.  I think that could work, if given a chance.
