My computer has gone wacko. Please HELP!!!
« on: July 15, 2002, 07:37:11 PM »
Well, I don\'t know what happened, but the screen looks like this! WTF! This is a message I get when I start Windows.

"There is a problem with your display settings.  The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware."

Well, I have no clue. Someone please help me. I am really sad. :(

Go in your device manager and remove your video driver.  Reboot.

Oh my god, that is one ugly picture you got there.

You have the same problem like my friend.  You didn\'t do it, but your graphics card is now poop.  You need to get a new one, install the new drivers and you\'ll be good to go.

If you are still having troubles even after updating your drivers.
(When u do update your drivers. Make sure you disable any anti virus programs. )
You could try, (if your Motherboards supports them)
  • 1. Turning down the transfer rate of your AGP, 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x etc.
  • 2. Disable any AGP FAST WRITE. Side Band etc
  • 3. Turning down your PCI Latency timer. Make it under 10.
  • 4. Enable your PCI/VGA Palette snoop if disabled...
  • 5. Disable your PCI/VGA Palette snoop if enabled...

Do each thing one at a time. don\'t set it all up in one go. You may not need to do them all. Normaly it\'s a simple thing.

OR

on you card check to see if the fan is running on it. That\'s if it\'s a fan. and not just a sink.
If there is a fan, and it\'s not running. You might be able to replace it. Ask a computer store.  If there\'s a sink and nothing else. Then your card is probably overheating.. or fryed.
That\'s even if your card has a sink or fan..

I have no idea what Soulgrind said. :nut:

I understand Gunn\'s perfectly though.

Man, I guess I\'ll have to bring it down to a comp store to figure out what\'s wrong. UGH. :(

video driver = display adapter

To do what Soul-man said you\'ll have to get into your BIOS.

I would try removing your video driver and re-installing first as that\'s easier.  If the problem persists go from there.

Do not take it to some whack-ass place like Best Buy or Circuit City.

Re-install your display driver... If you don\'t know what your display driver is go to the main site of what ever computer you have and I\'m sure they have it available for you to download for your specific model.

First of all, have you checked if the graphic card is correctly inserted into motherboard?
Todas estas cosas se perderán en el tiempo como lágrimas en la lluvia.
