Problems with my Display Adapter
« on: July 20, 2002, 08:45:53 AM »
I recently intstalled the newest version of IE.  When i tried to reboot my pc, Windows tells me that it cannot find my display aDApter.  iT DOESN\'T recognize it at all.  What can I do?  Should I just reinstall windows?

you mean IE or windows? Try to uninstall your current device and then reboot. Install your display adapter again and reboot one more time. It may work.

Windows won\'t load at all?  My display adapter is my video card?  I have a Savage, I think.

Yes, your display adapter is your video card. Windows will load with motherboard\'s graphic system, I mean 8 nice colours :D. It will try to recognize the new device, if not, install your display adapter and reboot. Some time ago i had a similar problem and it was fixed this way.

Have you tried loading windows in safe mode?

Tap F8 during the dos screen boot sequence and select safe mode from the options.

well I couldn\'t even get it to log ont safe mode.  Actually it was logging itself into safemode, but it couldn\'t complete it.  So I\'ve "successfully" loaded Win 2000 onto my machine.  ME is still on it also, I can\'t seem to exrtract much from ME onto 2000, specifically programs.  Thankfully I\'ve made a CD of most of the important things I use.

My question is that Im using a Presario.  A lot of my drivers, and drives were loaded already upon purchase.  I can\'t seem to get my CD/RW drive to load.  The system recognizes the Hardware and says that its woring properly, but when I load the Adaptec software, it says that its failing to intialize the "engine".  Any suggestions?

no no, 2000 is just as good, maybe better.  I have XP, it\'s nothing desirable.  :snore:

XP is based of NT, just like 2000, but 2000 isn\'t designed for gaming.  XP is, Xp has far better support for older games then 2000. Both are stable, both Operating systems are good. I prefer Xp myself. I did prefer 2000 over 98se. Then i got XP and i now prefer it. Mainly because i like gaming.

Anyway you could try finding the latest drivers for your CD rom.  Maybe you could check to see if the IDE ribbons are properly installed. (if u know how)
