Linux IS the OS; there\'s no such thing as an OS within an OS unless you count emulation.  The desktops worth looking into are KDE, gnome, blackbox, and Windowmaker and probably in that order.

yes,  Linux = free (for download)

when you buy it in the store, you get it pressed onto a cd, a manual, and normally 30 days tech support (email)

Duh, I know that. But seeing as how I bought it online and it was two CD\'s + shipping, it wasn\'t bad at all.
