The word IFRIT...real or made up?
« on: July 31, 2002, 07:20:42 AM »
I have been puzzled by the word Ifrit...
It occured after playing Final Fantasy X and I summoned the aeon who uses fire, Ifrit...and then I remembered the word from the name of Dante\'s gloves in Devil May Cry and they were on fire...
I\'ve looked it up on the net and I only get the video game references on the saerch engines...
Is it a real word or made up?

for Hades I found this...

Greek Mythology.   The god of the netherworld and dispenser of earthly riches.

This netherworld kingdom, the abode of the shades of the dead.
also hades Hell.

Alot.. almost all of Final Fantasy\'s summons come from ancient gods. A few are based off of mythalogical creatures like; Pheonix, Leviathan, and Bahamut. And a few I think are jus Square\'s creation. Least, I dunno where Carbuncle or Pandemonium fit in... but then you have Mog and Chocobo and all those too which are definately Square\'s doing.

BTW: Quezicotal was the name of the Aztec Sun God I believe.

shiva is the hindu god of war and destruction, NOT death

a carbuncle is a precious red gem , hence the gem in the FF characters forehead

What about Alexander.  That summon looks nowhere human or god.  (Kinda like some sort of robot.)

How about Ramuh?  God of thunder?  From what mythology?

And the unicorn in ffx.  The hideous beast that belong to Seymour.
The Magus Sisters.  So were these made up from square?
