Gimme a break.. Baseball strike. What a pitty......
« on: August 09, 2002, 10:51:25 AM »
http://www.msnbc.com/news/791939.asp

A little story about how they have to try and make ends meet if they go on strike next week.

Um people, even the loqest paid players are making a couple hundred grand a year.  Give me a freaking break.

And the last line of the piece makes me want to punch my screen.

God I hope this sport dies.  As much as I love the game, I hate the pro game.

Viva college sports.

There is nothing better than two teams battling it out, not for money, but for glory.

Close enough ;)

Atleast they won\'t go on strike because of too little pay.

But in the article, the thought of a guy even considering his 19,000 pay check as him having to try and now make ends meet is ridiculous.  I wish I got a 19,000 check 12 times a year.

Gimme a freaking break.   And that doesn\'t even come close to talking about the multi multi millionaires.

It really would be a shame if some of these players don\'t have enough money to get through the stoppage.  They might...you know...have to learn what it\'s like to do some honest work for the first time in their lives.  Give me a break.

Look back at the history of baseball.  Look at the early part of the century when players could really barely make ends meet and they were practically owned by the owners of the clubs.  Guess how often you had strikes back then...

Oh, and those poor people making low 6 figures a year...give me a break.  They think that anyone who has ever been in the majors should never have to work again in their lives.  It\'s sad, but true.  That is what makes me sick.

By the way, a union that already has it\'s lowest paid members making five time the average income in this country for a small, small fraction of the work (in fact, for playing a GAME), should never be complaining like this.

this strike isnt about the players wanting more money, its about the owners wanting to contract teams and install a salary cap, the players association has said many times that todays players make plenty of money.

bud selig is f*cking up baseball.

Contracting teams?  Good.  Take away teams that get no attendence.  Take away the Expos, take away the D-Rays or the Marlins.  The players go elsewhere, the talent level increases, the stats players compile aren\'t that far inflated.  Just don\'t take a team like the Twins.

And a salary cap?  Good.  No baseball player should be making 25million something a year.

Have you ever been to an Expos game?  They have the worst stadium in baseball, the lowest attendence, and those who do go to the games are mainly tourists.  It\'s just a really sad thing.  The last game I went to there was Mets at Expos.  The seats along the field on the third baseline, where I was, were roped off.  From about where the bag was back...no one even allowed in the seats along the field.  Why?  Because no one buys them anyway.  The seats behind home weren\'t even full.  The place was the most empty I\'d ever seen for a MLB game both times I was there.  Take the teams who have fans who don\'t support them.  That\'s the difference.

well, the twins stadium sucks too, and thier attendeance was horrible untill they started playing good this year.

if you remember before the season started the twins were almost shut down because they couldnt pay thier bills.

and the expos are moving, not being contracted. the expos are a great franchise, the only problem is they play in montreal.

I\'m just saying that I would like to see fewer teams around, and thus more talent on the ones that are around.  If teams have to go, the most logical ones are the ones with the worst fans.  I think the fact that when the Twins and Expos were announced as contraction teams, all the fuss was over the Twins, says something.

By the way, the Twins stadiums is not nearly as bad, and they never had attendence as low as the Expos.  The Expos didn\'t even get decent attendence when they started to make a run this year.

my only point is that the expos are a great franchise, with great tradition, i think the same about the twins, but you cant say the expos deserve to be contracted more than the twins do.

the only thing im in favor of is contracting the two florida teams... by the way you do know that contraction means combining two teams, so the marlins and devil rays would just make sense.

ok i just did some research... and i found out that the expos and twins were paired together for contraction... so our argument is kinda pointless, if the expos go, so do the twins.

coinky-dink eh?
