Alright listen(and/or read) I have been thinking about getting into online RPGs. If I do, Star Wars Galaxies or City of Heroes will probably be my first. Anyways I wanted some MMORPGers to tell me about the games in general. Like some pros and cons to online gaming. Thanks in advance.

Here a some things I\'ve noticed:

Pros:

  • the game never ends
  • patches can really become badass
  • meet or make friends
  • sense of competition

Cons:
  • can be extremely addicting
  • come accross some people you don\'t like
  • monthly fee
  • can cost a lot of money for one game

Hmm... EQ is a challenge when u first enter lvl 60 (highest lvl).. before that its just time consuming.  So, dont say that there is no challenge left after u have lvled up.... thats very very wrong.

Im not going to repeat the pros / cons the other peeps here already have posted.... but I agree on most of em.

Pros: Guilds / clan.... most fun part of the game is being a member of a guild... A guild in the begining of the game means nothing to you realy. But at high end lvl.. when u need help for all sort of stuff... it is realy nice to see peeps showing up. Just to help you, and vice versa. And doing something other guilds thought was imposible etc.... is realy something special.

Im not sure how StarWars Galaxies will be... Im not going to play it my self, but if it is today you are going to start MMORPG... then I advice you to start Everquest or the upcomming Shadowbane that will be out later this year. For future MMORPGs... Everquest 2 is the way to go.... with the most impressive graphic engine to date + a whole new way to create your character etc. EQ2 will be out late 2003.
MM told me to have a 5 line signature. I count now

You could also try The Sims: Hot Gay Sex Online (or TS:HGSO if you prefer). It simulates mass orgies and lots of other fun things. You have to keep track of your gay character and make him \'get it on\' with other players. Bobs_Hardware says it\'s cool, so perhaps that was worth checking out?

At least you don\'t have EQ on your list... that game is horrible in the high end game.  You\'d be frustrated so much you\'ll want to beat your PC to death with a baseball bat.  The only thing fun in EQ is the low level game... once you start approaching 50, it\'s all hell.

Stay away from EQ!

Hmm... I\'d probably go with SW:G.  I hear it\'s supposed to be good.  Haven\'t heard much about CoH... but it looks like fun.  Very cool concept.

Basically, choose an MMORPG that  seems balanced to you.  Do tons of research about what the game is like and how other feel it plays.  I\'d probably never jump into one when it\'s first released... wait until it\'s out for a few months and other people get the feel for it, so you know what you\'re getting into.

Raids raids raids, that\'s all the high end game is.  Oh, that and camping camping camping.  Some mobs take weeks to spawn, it\'s horrible.  And since they\'re staic spawns, instead of random locations, you\'ll have tons of people ahead of you trying to get the mob.

The adventure element in EQ is completely lost... the game has too many flaws, it\'s too old for it\'s own good.

Just wondering ViVi, what level are you and how long have you played EQ?  Also, what server do you play on?  Any alts?

Trust me Gohan, I know what I\'m talking about with EQ... but since you\'re not interested in it, I guess you can go ahead and ignore my rantings about the game.

I\'m lvl 46 right now, and I\'m having the most fun I\'ve ever had thus far.  I just went on a hate raid and since my best friend was leading the raid I got all the sweet monk gear. :smokin:

That\'s awesome.  Planes raids are fun, especially the first time you go there.  Same with killing dragons.  But because of the way the high end game works, they take far longer than they should.  Dragon raids take 3 hours, I\'ve heard of some that took even 12.  The really sad part is the actual fight with the dragon only takes 5 minutes, at most.  All the other time is getting the people buffed up and rezzing the dead.

Anyway, I\'ll stop bitching about EQ.... it is fun, when you don\'t have to deal with the long camps and kills, or any of the idiots that seem to plauge the game.

I have a level 55 Bard on Ayonae Ro.

Maybe I\'ll make a character on your server and we can go hunting.  Your monk your only guy?

Yeah he is, and I play on Tunare.  One thing I hate about plane raids, I always die a lot being a monk, I get aggro most the time and do the most damage unless theres a uber rogue backstabbing. :(

Jus forest 1 & 2.. and it\'s severly limited. Still, gives a good idea of what the game is like. Simple, and very addictive.. even if not as broad as other online RPG\'s such as Everquest and SW:G. Worth checking out at least.. the demo is like 90 meg tho, so I hope you have a good connection or a lot of free time.

Personally, I\'d recommend the GameCube version tho... if you want a good PC MMORPG then get Anarchy Online, Earth & Beyond (looks sweet), or Star Wars: Galaxies.
