PS2\'s online capabilities.
« on: August 27, 2002, 02:43:42 PM »
It was recently brought to my attention that Madden 2003 would be a pay to play game. You would need to pay 10$ a month to play it online. I just wanted to start a discussion on how bad this is for sony. Sony\'s entire plan for online gaming was that it would be free to play. That some games would require money to play but it would be left up to the delevopers descression. Since EA is the biggest third party developer and all of its future games have online capabilities I see there being a problem to play there games for 10$ a month when I can wait some time and play them for free on the computer.

I do agree that it is always up to a persons taste in game as to weather or not a person will pay to play a game. I am going to buy the HDD and Final Fantasy XI. I will pay the PlayOnline fee which is as of yet undisclosed. However I am not that much of a sports gamer that I would pay 10$ a month to play Football, Baseball, Basketball, and such online. I think I am getting way off topic but I just wanted to hear other persons opinions.

In closing. Sony\'s online future might be more successful if you didn\'t have to pay to play everygame.

Madden is free to play. However it looks like what EA will do is what many Madden fans do regardless. Per the instruction manual you will only be able to play the most recent version online.  BTW EA has already done a roster update that is available via download.
