"As of tomorrow, PlayStation 2 will cost £169.99 in the UK, a drop of £30 from today\'s price. The move has been heavily rumoured for more than a month, and is expected to force a similar reduction in price for Xbox at next month\'s European X02 event.
Nintendo is also said to be preparing a response to the move although no details are likely to be known until the company\'s breakfast presentation tomorrow ahead of London trade show ECTS.
The size of the drop has surprised some who expected to see PS2 come down to £150 before the Christmas rush, and the onus is now well and truly on Microsoft to bite the bullet: Xbox for £150, possibly even £130?
PS2 is currently selling around 11,000 units a week in Britain, with Xbox moving just over 3,000 consoles in the same region. Both figures are expected to boost massively in the run-up to Christmas, as are GameCube sales which are currently hovering at around 4,500 a week.
Rumour circulating this morning that GameCube will drop to £100 tomorrow.
Expect more on this throughout the day. PS2 for £170? Bargain, mate."
