Well I got home yesterday and having found a Network Adapter and a 50 ft ethernet cable I decided to hook up the PS2 and check out what it as like. Here is what I found:
The installation was incredibly easy. Not one problem. I chose the automatic detection and it worked without a hitch. I do have a gateway router and thought I might have some problems, but it went smoothly.
The demo disc comes with two playable games: Frequency and Madden 2003. Tribes, Tony Hawk and AT 4 wheel something are just videos. I decided to check out Frequency since I have the game and I got online and started getting my tail spanked by some online players. My wife comes in and says let me try (she is the Freq master) and proceeds to clean house. These guys are like WTF! I was losing 390 to 100 before I let my wife take over and now I was winning 490 to 280!!! They were all like "GG Dude, you sure got the hang of it" LOL it was pretty fun to see her really excell at a game I rarely touch. Also after reading the instructions you can swap the full version Frequency disk in to access all the songs from the full version game. This is nice and I am thinking you won\'t have to purchase a "Frequency Online" version of the game.
I have SOCOM but I am going to mess around with it in Single Player for a bit before going online. The only problem I feel is fighting with my wife over who is going to be playing what online.
I think the $39 was well worth it. Though I would have liked to have seen them pack in the Twisted Metal Black: Online game inside the packaging as opposed to sending in a flimsy little postcard sized coupon. I pray it doesn\'t get lost in the mail. If you have broadband this is definite purchase - its free to play the games (as of now at least) and my ping was pretty good - avg 65 with my cable modem.
