Is Linux worth buying? I want to know because I\'m very interested in getting it. What are people\'s opinions?

dont buy it, download it

its open source (free)

when you buy it in the store, you get a nice shiny package to keep it in

i\'d go with either red hat or mandrake if yer a 1st time user

linux is not easy. there\'s no executables, there\'s no real play and play.

but it will do just about anything a windows box can do and better, EXCEPT play games

that will change eventually

i run red hat linux 7.3 on my 2nd PC on my network

That what I meant. I\'m a dufous. I\'m planning on getting the Red Hat one and partition my hard drive when I get cable. I\'d like a challenge and from what I heard, it helps with computer knowledge or something like that. I can\'t wait to get it. Thanks mm.

Since I don\'t have a CD-RW drive, I bought Mandrake on two CD\'s (just payed for shipping and the CD\'s). And it had a graphical installer and found all my hardware. It wasn\'t much unlike installing Windows - so it can be done rather easily if that\'s what you want.

What\'s the difference between the Mandrake and Redhat?

mandrake is the most friendliest of linux flavors

red hat is slightly more complicated BUT more powerfull

from there it just goes up the scale from SUSE, to slackware, etc...

Red Hat has little differences from every distro that make it annoying. Even tho it\'s what I use I\'m tired of them packaging gcc2.96 w/ every release and not updating their KDE rpms enough. But those are minor things. It runs well.

Mandrake is good too. I\'ll try Suse next.
