Any good arcade racer to recommend?
« on: September 01, 2002, 06:07:18 PM »
I just feel the need for an arcade racer for my PS2. Currently, I don\'t have any arcade racing game.

The only racing game I have is GT3(still playing it!!!).

Pls recommend me a few(except Ridge Racer Revolution, please!)
good ones.

Burnout is pretty good, and Need for Speed:Hot Pursuit 2(out now, or soon) got a great review in PSM(It got a 9 + Game of the Month). Also, if you subscribe to OPM, I think the Need for Speed is going to be on the upcoming demo disc.

Ridge Racer 5 is excellent.

NFSHP2 is also brilliant. I have played the demo and it rocks. Out soon, definately worth a purchase.

Racer, what did you think to the demo then.. looks a lot more polished than Toca doesnt it.
I\'m wondering if it\'s the same demo that i played about a month ago.
the framerate was around 30 but take off the hud and the game speeds up
try it Racer, (i think it was press the d-pad up) and the framerate improves.

Only 30fps?? The final version better be 60fps!! I can live with 30fps RPG but not 30fps racing games!!

I\'m pretty sure it\'ll be 30fps.  It was very, very smooth though.  Then again, not much action was happening on screen in the demo (just one moving cop car, occasional road block (2 cars) andwhatnot).  No damage model, and the stearing was a little tight.  Racer over-reacted, but I\'m sure it\'ll be a fine game.

Smugglers Run is surprisingly fun, particularly in 2 player if you want to give that a try. (Mainly in 2-player!)

If they can get the framerate a solid 50 in NFS final version then it will be excellent.

Stanzo, yes, I have tried turning the HUD off, makes a big difference. The game is actually a very steady 60 for alot of it, except for when you get near other cars. I also think that the forest track is the most dense environment wise.

EA have said that they should be able to get it to a solid 50 for the PAL version upon release. Its the main reason why its been delayed so much. It got a 9 in PSW.

Thanks Racer, mmm.. PSW have reviewed it? shouldn\'t be long comming out then.
I\'ll be keeping a lookout for it\'s release, but saying that Burnout is 50FPS and it does look rather tasty.
i\'m finding it tough to decide between the two of them.. oh, what the heck. if my pocket money covers it,
then i\'ll take them both.

Paul have you thought in AutoModellista? It\'s a original game with online options...

Adan: Yes, I know about Modelista, but despite it\'s cell shading graphics, it is more of a sim racer like GT3 rather than an arcade game.

for 20 bucks you could pick up one helluva game in Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero.  This is an amazingly fun game, I prefer it to GT3 when it comes to the fun factor.
