The answer is not obvious dude.
I guess when David Stern and the entire NBA is hailing you as the next Michael Jordan, you have the luxury of blowing off your nation. For most amateur atheletes, competing in the Olympics is an honor, a priviledge, and a responsibility[/i] You have to take every opportunity you get to participate, because you might not get another one. By declining his opportunity to compete in the Olympics, Kobe Bryant pissed on the entire amateur tradition of the games. Amateurs have to structure their personal lives around competition schedules, not the other way around.
The Olympics are not just a job like playing an 82 game season in the NBA, yet Kobe Bryant doesn\'t recognize any difference. To him it\'s just another press conference and another photo op. You think he believes "what the hell, I\'ll just be on the team next time." I think he really doesn\'t give a damn one way or the other. That\'s what hacks me off.
