What\'s the best way to buy the Network Adapter?
« on: September 08, 2002, 11:19:59 AM »
Are there ANY online retailers that can ship the Network Adapter by mail?  I don\'t have a lot of free time, so I don\'t enjoy calling stores and driving around to find one locally.  I also don\'t dig the idea of squabbling over them at the electronics counter at Wal-Mart or some shiat like that.

I usually buy most things online if I can, but I haven\'t found any online vendors that are able to sell it right now.  Has anyone had success with mail order?

I\'m sure you could get it by mail, but there is probably a long list ahead of you of previous orders.  I got lucky last friday and circuit city had 3 left, so I had to get it knowing how scarce it is right now.

you can order it form most video game stores on-line page, I know Bestbuy took it off of theirs.......try ebay but they will be charging alot more than the MSRP.

The videogame stores I checked all listed the item, but then included a warning that they are out of stock and cannot sell it right now.  I\'m not paying more than list price.

I just want to state that I find this system of distribution totally stupid.  The NETWORK ADAPTER is a product that allows your PS2 to connect with other games over THE INTERNET yet you cannot buy it over the internet.  You have to physically go to a store and hope you get lucky.  It should be EASIER to buy it from an online retailer than buying it from a physical store.  Why is this reversed?  If they can\'t meet demand, then the people who buy it online should get them first.  I don\'t understand it.

ummm i disagree

the people that have to get off their butt and drive to the stores or the people smart enough to preorder the adapter should get them first

i mean they actually try to get them while the others dont want to do anything and just click a button and have it come in the mail

anyway just thought that it didnt make sense - dang internet has kept too many folks in their homes already - dont let laziness happen to you :p

I agree, core, get off your fat ass and get out there and get your NA...

Then I can beat your ass in Madden like everyone else has done to me.  Damn I suck.

Sony does this on purpose.  If there is more demand then supply.  The item is worth more.  If people are under the impression that the certain item is "hard to find" then chances are that they will have more priority in finding/buying it.  It happend to me when I bought my PS2.  I spent an entire day looking for one because I couldnt wait anymore, and They made me buy 3 games with it.  They wouldnt let me have it otherwise.  (Package deal)  They also raise their sales by selling an item at the same release date as a game that needs it EX: SOCOM  or FFXI (The release date of the hard drive)

Well the supply problems (whether they\'re artificial or not) will not have the desired effect on me.  I\'m going to keep waiting until I\'m able to buy the network adapter in a way that\'s convenient to me.  Call me self centered, but I believe that a manufacturer should be looking for ways to increase their customers\' convenience, not decrease it.

Besides, there are no games out now that I really care about playing online.  I don\'t care about football, so I have no interest in Madden.  The only thing I\'m somewhat interested in is TM:B Online, and it seems I have a few more months to get that.

I probably would have ordered the Network Adapter from an online retailer just to be prepared when a game comes out that I want to play, but I don\'t really need it, so I choose to wait.

As far as their marketing schemes; I didnt say that they were right.  I dont like it either, but if you want something bad enough..... well thats the way it works.
So, SOCOM doesn\'t intrest you?  Its a great game.

SOCOM might interest me, I\'m not sure yet.  I need to read more about it.  On the other hand, I have several games that I haven\'t completed yet, so it\'s hard to justify starting another one right now.  I seem to prefer games like TM:B where you can just jump in and go for it whenever you have a few spare minutes, rather than long-term story based games.

Madden would be perfect for me, if I liked football.  Maybe when a basketball game is released that supports the network adapter, that will be just right for me.

I have my adapter on preorder at EB and I am waiting for the call. I really can\'t figure out why there has to be a shortage.

Is there any reason why they couldn\'t have supplied more than enough for preorders.

Also, for those who are hooked up, is it as good as you though it would be?

UPDATE:

I received an email notification from Circuit City stating that the Network Adapter is back in stock.  They have an online sales feature through their website, so you can buy it online at http://www.circuitcity.com/  I placed an order yesterday.

It would seem that supply problems are not as bad as indicated.

When I didn\'t want one I saw them all over.  Now I want one and they\'re nowhere.  CircuitCity.com is out of stock.  Sigh.
