Titan is in touch with his femin side.

personally I feel bad for the victimms, yet I don\'t feel a need to dwell on something that happend a year ago, and an event that killed less people than irresponsible American companys do every year.

Anyone hear more on the war against Iraq? Supposedly we are finishing off Hussein once and for all. If I was 18, I\'d join the military and help in the war.

I had the opposite reaction in some ways...I really don\'t want to cause an arguement at all in this topic, but I think expressing patriotic sentiments and honoring or remembering the victims of these events are very different things.  This event had nothing to do with our military, nothing to do with our patriotism.  It was a terrorist action, plain and simple.  When patriotism is expressed in the place of remorse, I can\'t say I agree with that.  If it happened in another nation, would it be any less important?  Or better yet, should it be?

Actually, the military part of my post didn\'t have anything else to do with my other half of the post. I actually feel that it is stupid that people are all of a sudden patriotic after the attacks. If people were truely patriotic, they would have had shirts and stuff before the attacks. Ryu\'s little poem jsut touched me in a way.

I guess that\'s part of what I\'m saying. I was talking about Ryu\'s post though, with what I said. Anyway, I\'m done. I don\'t want to ruin this thread with this stuff.

Meh, if anyone can get that bent out of shape for 3 lines text, then maybe you shouldn\'t have responded at all.  :)

However, in retrospect, because of 9/11, our army and navy are fighting a battle across the seas for our beliefs.  They are over there for us fighting for those who can\'t or won\'t.  I honor them just the same as I honor the dead.  You can disagree with that, but because you do, that won\'t stop me from expressing myself and what I feel.
Don\'t you ever touch my cape.

Guys, don\'t ruin the thread, (i\'m talking about theomen and Vapor).

Today at school the Freshmans were all wearing red, Sophmores wore blue, Juniors wore white, and Seniors wore all 3. Then they had 9/11 spray painted on the ground and all the freshmans got in the 9, sophmores in the slash, juniors in the 1, and seniors in the other 1. Then we had teachers on a cherry picker and took some pictures, I\'m curious to see how it turns out. Then we all crammed into the gym for a slideshow and some speeches. We had a Navy officer give a speech, then watched the slideshow. Both the slideshow and speech were pretty good.

But yeah, I still think the media is riding this a little too much, none us have forgotten what happened, and we don\'t need to see the same story on 5 different tv channels.

Oh yeah, does anyone know how long they were calling the names of the people that died? I turned it on when i woke up and it was still going when i left for school.

i hope we all learn a great lesson from this.  all americans everywhere should get along and stop fighting about minor difference such as race and religion.

to a certain extent you\'re right square, but if I fully agreed I would be a hypocrite.

Racism is going down in America. New generations are now learning to work with one another. Its just groups like the KKK that are teaching their children to hate and it just makes me sad to hear about that. I\'m glad that things in America are definitely getting better.

Today my college classes were cancelled. Some evil bastard thought it would be cool or funny to put a bomb threat on my school. Who knows it could be real, but whoever did it is an idiot.

Well anyways i\'ve seen little american flags all over the place as well. It got pretty touching after seeing it everywhere and then seeing reports on tv...but i held back from getting tear eyed.:o

Interesting read:

Quote
Dear Post-911 Flag-Waving Fellow Americans:

After reading your newspapers - after listening to your corporate media\'s propagandistic version of the so-called "War Against Terrorism" now under way in Afghanistan - after seeing your flag-decked SUV\'s with the Pisces emblems on the one side and National Rifle Association stickers on the other - after enduring this national adrenalin rush daily for the past two months - I have concluded that you are, by and large, a shallow, callous, insular, naively manipulable and infinitely self-righteous lot.

You are dangerously intoxicated at this time with a virulent strain of myopic ethnocentrism approaching Third Reich fanaticism - one that is most unattractive to the quiet minority here who can\'t in good conscience join your sloganeered, bumper-stickered, anthem-singing, flag-flapping, Muslim-hating hysteria.

You are riding the crest of a wave of blind arrogance, egocentric hedonism and aggressive nationalism that cannot last - one that will inevitably lead to a cataclysmic fall in time.

I do not know how these things will evolve. I am no prophet or seer. But of this I am reasonably certain. You will be - you must be - humbled. Karmic laws are inexorable, inescapable and universal. America is ripe for a humbling as the 21st Century begins.

I do not wish this to be the case. I live here, as have my forebears for at least six generations. I have children and grandchildren who will suffer when the collapse occurs. But I see this national adjustment as inevitable.

You as a people are not better than - you do not deserve more of everything than - any other group on the planet.

You do not possess an inherent right to abuse - to show utter disregard for - other human cultures and groups, as well as every other species with which you share this tiny blue orb.

You do not possess an inherent right to destroy the very Earth that has nurtured you with your outsized contribution to global pollution - one that will bring catastrophic climate changes and sea level alterations within the present century.

You are not so very special and unique as you may imagine, flag-waving Americans. Deity has not singled you out for preferential treatment and predestined dominance. You are merely the current bully on the block - an ephemeral thing at best. Bullies come and go.

In the longer view of history, you will go the way of other civilizations that became overly extended, overly aggressive, overly confident, overly materialistic, and overtly abusive toward all that did not embrace unflinchingly their narrowly defined interests and values.

I have thought often during recent days of Thomas Jefferson\'s remark regarding the institution of slavery - a gathering storm in his time.

He said, "...I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just."

Indeed, I tremble today for my country because I know my fellows are on a course that cannot end well.
