Microsoft Game Studios announced today that it is currently developing a massively multiplayer online role-playing game in conjunction with Level-5 Inc., tentatively titled “True Fantasy Live Online" that is compatible with the Xbox online gaming service, Xbox Live. "True Fantasy Live Online" will utilize broadband and voice chat features to provide an online gaming experience only possible on Xbox Live. This game will be shown to the public at Tokyo Game Show 2002 starting on September 20, 2002.

"True Fantasy Live Online" takes place in a world filled with fantastical characters such as high-flying broomstick-riding wizards and armies of armored knights working together to vanquish evil creatures that threaten the innocent. Numerous players will work and play together in one of the largest massively multiplayer online role- playing games created for Xbox Live.

In the "True Fantasy Live Online" world, players can create their own unique alter egos for themselves, tailoring their in-game avatars to fit their playing style and personal preferences. And with the voice chat feature, chatting with others becomes as natural and as easy as talking to friends on the phone ... a far cry from bulky keyboards that require putting down the controller.

Xbox Live is the exclusive online game service for Xbox that will be available in Japan, North America and Europe this year. With its built-in hard disk and Ethernet port, the Xbox was designed for online gaming from the ground up. By connecting Xbox to their local broadband network, users will be able to enjoy games that take them beyond the confines of their homes. Xbox Live\'s unique features include the Matchmaking facility which lets players find other gamers to play with, and the Friends list which, lets players find friends and invite them to play their favorite games together. The Xbox Live Starter Kit includes 12 months of online service, the Xbox Communicator, and ready-to-play pack-in demos.

This game came out of nowhere!  Did anyone here about this game previously?  I didn\'t and I try to keep up with everything coming up on all systems.

It looks good and sounds like a lot of fun.  Hopefully MS pulls this one off without a hitch.

oh, and don\'t bother responding with "ughhh, cel-shading"  <---I already did it for ya;)

Got this from pstwo at another site.  Why he didn\'t already have it posted here is beyond me.

Enjoy!:D

mm - Probably. If it\'s not developed in-house by MS I can see them adding on a charge. *scans the artical again* Hmm.. it is inhouse. Well.. I can see it being free for awhile, but they may tack on a charge later on if they don\'t feel they\'re making a profit.

"Ugh - Celshading" - F*ck it.. I think it looks tight. At least in this case, it seems to add character to the game instead of being a cash in on the latest graphical trick. OMG, is that Guybrush Threepwood riding the dragon in that third pic??? :p My biggest praise for this game so far.. TEXT BUBBLES! w00t. I can\'t stand the text "windows" you find in games like EQ and FFXI. I think it takes away from the action on-screen when you\'re scanning a little tiney window for vital messages from your team-mates. One question tho.. if it\'s voice chat.. why text bubbles anyhow? If you can\'t use a keyboard, how can you type in text? Maybe it\'s jus NPC talk.. but I would figure in a game surrounded by the voices of other players, MS wouldda sprung for voice actors on NPC\'s. Huh. Another question.. is it realtime or turn based? It looks real-time, but you never know. After PSO, it\'s going to hard trying to switch to a turn based MMORPG. That could ruin a game like this, so hopefully they know better by now.

Too bad I don\'t have an Xbox or Broadband, cause I\'d probly pick this title up. One of the few Xbox games to really grab my full attention from the outset. :) Lets hope it lives up to expectations.

All good questions, Sonyfan.  Unfortunatley nothing else has been released about the game.  Since it\'s out in the open now you can probably expect more info soon.

It seems MS is starting to let info slip out on some new games that haven\'t seen the light of day yet.  Ottogi is one of them...it\'s a game reminiscent to Onimusha.  Very good looking.

Just so you know, no Xbox games will be Live Only.  They are compatiable, but you can still play the game through as a single/multi player experience.

Oh.. well how do you make a multiplayer based game into a singleplayer experience? Sega did it with PSO, but that kept it from becomming a MMORPG, jus an online dungeon crawl. Not to mention that being online is what MADE that game.. it\'s ok offline.. but only really shines through with how great it is once you\'re interacting with others.

I jus have my doubts as to weither or not MS could pull it off. After being confined to 4 "levels" I\'m beggin for something continuous and perpetual like EQ or FFXI. This game interests me cause, from the looks of it, it mixes those those games and PSO perfectly with a original concept and great art direction.

I hope we hear more about it soon so these answers can get cleared up.

(Not that it should matter to me, since I ain\'t got Broadband. :( )

Expect a similar case for this game.  The meat of the game will have to be enjoyed online.

I was just pointing out that MS stated all Xbox Live games will be able to be enjoyed on and off line.

Nice use of cell shading. No, I didn\'t read the article as I don\'t like online games or RPG\'s, but I do like cel-shading and this game is doin\' a damn fine job of it.
