Aaargh, help meh!
« on: September 18, 2002, 01:56:11 AM »
:(

Dammit, I got a GF3 (Asus V8200 Deluxe to be exact), but when I installed it and tried to boot, my PC gave a couple of beeps and there was no signal to the monitor. So I plugged the old Voodoo3 back in, and it worked fine.

Assuming the card is working alright, what could be the problem here? I think I read somewhere that the Geforce line of cards use a great deal of power, and that if the PSU can\'t handle it, it won\'t work. But I\'m not sure if that\'s the deal - my PSU is 235W. I would of course buy a new case with a 300+W PSU if that would help... any suggestions?? :crap:

EDIT: The PC seems to boot/start fine. But there\'s no signal to the monitor; i.e. the card isn\'t \'found\' or something. Argh!

Your MB might not support it.. a MB also has to have a lot of power for GF cards.

Yeah, I have 2 HD\'s and 2 CD-ROM drives... so you suspect it could be the PSU that can\'t handle it?

Samwise, I think I can help you. That sound is a nice hint to solve ther problem, but I need to know what kinda bios you have (Phoenix/Award/Ami) and how long are the beeps (short/long).

Tell, me, i\'ll try to help you.

I think it\'s an Award BIOS. The beeps were rather short I think, and there were 2 or 3 of them.

Perhaps the first beep was a bit longer than the rest? Sorry, I can\'t remember it exactly. :)

What you described is the exact same thing that happened when I tried to put My GF card in my current comp.

My problem was simple, my MB doesn\'t support it. The GF card is an AGP 4x card my MB only supports 2x AGP. Don\'t know if that is your problem or not, but my PC did exactly what you described and it\'s my MB.

As has been said before, that little psu of yours is most likely the problem.

Or maybe the card is a homophobe :p

Aw, crap... My motherboard is an Abit BM6, so it\'s an "old" one. I\'m pretty sure it doesn\'t support 4x AGP. :(

I guess I\'ll have to upgrade quicker then. :)

Samwise I think your problem is this, according to your quote:

The graphic card is all right but your motherboard doesn\'t support it. Sorry :)
