My dog died today
« on: September 23, 2002, 03:55:00 AM »
I am so devested. I loved her so much. She was 11 yrs old, and last month we took her to the vet. We found out she had a tumour in her liver.

It just happened so quickly. Yesterday she was fine, walking around, and today she was just so helpless.

I don\'t know how I could ever own another pet, as I could never go through this again.

It\'s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all.

You had years of friendship and love, now because it ended (which you knew one day it would) you\'re never going to own another pet?.  Sad..

Sorry to hear about it BTW, I\'ve lost lots of pets too..

Sorry about your dog. I\'ve been there myself.

That\'s the best way to go dude.  I hope I am happy one day and then off the next.  At least you know he didn\'t suffer from tumours for years.

It sucks to lose a pet, but look at how much fun you had with him.

My dog Stanley turns 5 next month.  I say to him all the time that he is going to die at the worst time of Logan\'s life..

Any of you lose a dog at around age 8?  That is going to be real tough.

Good luck to you sir Racer....  You know you have us to lean on....  Even though we kid around with you all the time we still care....

I hear ya Vid.  I have two dogs - one is 4 and the other is 2 - the four year old one will probably die around the time my son is 7 or 8.  On the bright side it teaches them about death and that life is not forever and should be cherished.  Better a pet than say a mother, father or grandparent.  I love my dogs and I dread the day they are gone.

On another note my grandmother lost her dachsund recently and won\'t get a new one.  She lives alone and my family worries about her since she has no friends.  My wife and I were going to drive up to see and surprise her with a new one, but my grandmothers fear is that she will die before the new dog does.

Heh tried that :) , but we wouldn\'t put it down.  Besides my grandmother is only in her late 70\'s and my family tends to live up into the 90\'s so chances are she would outlive the dog.

buy her a HORSE!

Actually, at that age I think a cat is probably the right animal.. they tend to live for quite a few years, have you considered one of those for her?

Nah my family likes dogs - not cats.  Shhh don\'t tell my wife.  She won\'t suspect me when hers mysteriously disappears. ;)

I had a dog put down a few years ago, he was 13 and had arthritis so he couldn\'t walk. It was a very sad time.

The main thing to remember is that the dog is not suffering any more.

#Racer# sorry to hear anout your lose man, I went through the same thing on August 26th.  My dog of 8 years died after a long battel with what was believe to be spinal cancer.  Just know that your dog is now in a better place.

And when I was in the same situation as you are now, I found that a puppy may be the best medicine.  Don\'t think of it as a replacement for a lost loved one, but just a new member of the family to love.

A family pet that died is a family loss. Hey, you loved her and that\'s all she wanted from you. Cheer up. She lived a happy life.

I\'d hold back on a puppy, though. Time to sit back and take it all in. A new puppy is one change too many in a short span of time, IMO.

EDIT - my dog is 12 years old. I\'m scared for ole Rocky. I\'m scared for me.

Agreed.  You don\'t want a new puppy right off the bat.

What kind of a dog was it?
