Broadband troubles.. whats the deal?
« on: September 24, 2002, 03:24:31 AM »
I have an ethernet DSL modem.. so I thought this would be as simple as unplugging my modem from the back of my network card that goes into my computer, and connecting it to my PS2\'s Network Adapter.

That part when smoothly. My ISP (Bellsouth DSL) requires a username and password to login.. so I chose automatic settings.. and then put in the username and password (the same I use to login through my DSL in WinXP). Now.. it goes to the connection test and just sits there... failing test after test.

What is the problem? I tried it on Sunday.. could the Sony servers have been down or something? I dont see a reason in hell why this shouldnt work.

You may have to reset your DSL modem.  Make sure the modem is plugged into your PS2, then UNPLUG your DSL modem\'s power cord for a couple of seconds. Plug it back in and try again.

Hope this helps.

If you\'re on DHCP yeah, you\'ll have to reset the modem to release and renew your IP.

If you\'re not using a DHCP connection did you input your IP/net mask given to you by your ISP into your PS2?

err... I dont have a static IP. WinXP connects to my DSL using PPPoE. So why doesnt the PS2 NA do the same thing? or is there some sort of catch?

Not sure.  I\'m not a PPPoE expert but you can be sure that your PS2 will act very differently than a M$ OS.

You just need a router that assigns an internal static IP.
