"Switchable" 3D LCD Monitor Unveiled by Sharp
Sharp have unveiled a new type of liquid crystal display that allows two slightly different images to be delivered to a viewers left and right eyes, allowing the viewer to perceive a 3D representation of the image.
The technology allows for electrically "switchable" modes to be used, for example, 3D for gaming, and normal viewing for word processing. Sharp are now seeking to promote the technology, seeking partnerships with other manufacturers.
There is no need for special 3D glasses, as the screen controls the path the light takes to the eyes, ensuring that the correct image reaches the correct eye. It is the brain that then combines the two images into 3D.
