Sly Cooper = BEST GAME EVAR!
« on: September 28, 2002, 10:58:56 PM »
OK, maybe not the best ever, but in a while. Yes, I do think it is better than Mario Sunshine :: runs for cover::. But anyways, imagine Metal Gear, Klonoa, Batman, Scooby Doo all rolled up into one great package and you\'ve got Sly Cooper and the Thievious Raccoonus.

Here\'s my review.

Presentation:

Menus are slick and easy. There is a map you can use to travel though the levels very easily. The story is told though cartoon picture thingies, like in Twisted Metal Black except not as dark and evil. The stories are really entertaining to watch. Not much more to say here.

9/10

Sound:

I really loved the music for this game. It changed with the action on the screen. When you sneek around it goes down to almost no music and once your cought, the beat kicks in and your blood will get flowing and makes for a great experience. The voice acting is top-notch with just about every type of character you can find. A nerdy turtle, mocho man dog, annoying alligator, mean frog and makes an all entertaining package.

9/10

Graphic: OK, here were go. The game starts out beautifully with great "toon- shading" and great use of colors. But as you move on in the game you WILL notice frame rate drops ALOT. Which is kinda disappointing. But then again this game is in no way about about graphics which you could tell when I get to the Gameplay. When the frame rate isn\'t dropping the game is beautiful. Especially in the last couple of levels which is nice.

8/10

Gameplay: THE BEST GAMEPLAY EVAR! Where do I start? You will be doing things in this game that you will only be dreaming of doing. Jumping on pillirs as fine as a needle with perfection. The controls are absolutely perfect. There are tons of Mini games, FPS\'s, Racing, Blowing up chickens, Jet packs make this one of the funniest games ever. You will probably have more fun here in one level than you did in the whole game of Jak and Daxter! Don\'t get me wrong I loved Jak and Daxter but most of the time I found myself stareing at the beautiful backgroungs and draw distance, I really wasn\'t playing. That won\'t be happening here, every level makes you want to jump sneek dive in all kinds od action. One level in particular named Two to Tango is an absolute blast. Rooftop chasing, powerline running matress jumping greatness, you really have to play it to understand what I\'m talking about. The game is prety liner, you take a path like in Namco\'s Klonoa. Overall I couldn\'t have asked for anything more, really!

10/10

Reply Value

Before I got this game I was worried it was going to be too short. I beat the game in a little over 13 hrs. But I really din\'t beat the game because I\'m only 86 % done with completing it altogether. You could just run through the game in about 10 but you would be getting all the cool powers like time control ( slow motion, fast forward) if you do that. Each level has a number of bottles you have to find ( which isn\'t easy, by the way ) you unlock a safe that gives you a page of the Thievious Raccoonus to give you a new power. And after your done with that you can do a time trail mode for each level which is very very challenging. Once you finish that you get a special commentary of how the developers made each level. All that adds over 5 more hours of greatness.

9/10

Overall

9.5/10

I love this game, I\'m going back to play some more Sly Cooper right now, bye!

Sounds good. Wasn\'t really much interested before but now I\'ll have to at least give it a spin. This is the first time I\'ve heard about slowdown, some other guy raved about how silky smooth it was

Vivi=ripped? Inside joke?

Well, it\'s really not a slowdown, the character still runs smoothly but something about the framerate screws up. Don\'t worry about it though, the gameplay will more than make up for it.

As for you Vivi what the heck was that about?

Also I forgot to mention in my review, there is this really cool boss in the game where you play Parappa style! It\'s great, you do the buttons sequences and everything, it\'s alot of fun!

This game is much more than a rental to me it fells so complete. You will keep this game in the front of your collection for quit a while.

Same here...I\'m slighty disappointed seeing as how EGM raved over it being such a different platform game.  I was expecting something that broke the mold or took a new direction.

Sure, you have to sneak around a little...but it still feels like the same old run and jump.

Having said that, I will say the game is good.  Just not as special as I thought it would be.

The sneaking in a lot of situations is a mere afterthought.  As for graphics - the engine is quite impressive, until you get to the later levels, espically the swamp level - where the game crawls to a near halt .

Having said that, the game is pretty good - but its nothing overly special. I don\'t feel as it broke the mold, like EGM and other critics was claiming it would, but at the same time, it\'s a pretty darn good platform game for the PS2. Not quite Kolona 2 quality though, which stills holds the PS2 Platformer game award, in my humble opinion.

I have to agree that the presentation is near top quality...I\'m impressed, just underwhelmed at what I\'ve played compared to what I thought I was going to get.

Klonoa 2...still haven\'t tried that one, but will now.

Klonoa 2 is one of the greatest games this generation and I hate being that bold, but it is. It is beautiful, yet simplistic graphic wise and the same can be said for the gameplay. Honestly, I don\'t think any platform game this generation can even come close to Namco\'s little masterpiece.

I am really curious towards this game.

I am feeling the same thing towards MAXIMO as this game. When I bought Maximo I was so excited- but fairly let down. I was expecting top notch.

Better than J&D? How about the levels? HUGE? small?
