« on: October 01, 2002, 12:01:50 AM »
I need some help. My PS2 keeps shutting down whenever i put a disc in the tray. i had it running for about 2 minutes when it had shut down for the first time and now it wont load anything even for a sec. The PS2 menu works fine but if i put a disc in it shuts down.

any ideas?

So, your saying when you try to load a game the PS2 turns off, or does the game just not play properly?

Are you playing original games? You not being naughty and playing copied discs?

If you just bought it I would take it back to the shop. It sounds pretty knackered to me.

Its all original... and the thing is I bought it from the other side of the ocean so I can\'t bring it back to the store.

The games play great but the PS turns itself off after 40-50 secs of playing.

I heard it might be overheating but the fan doesn\'t stop turning (until it turns itself off ;) ) I think it might have something to do with the power converter I am using. its an American PS2 and I live in Israel so I need a power converter. Could it be that the PS is just not getting enough "juice"? as anyone from Europe ran into this sort of problem?

I\'m in the UK and if I had a US ps2 it would need a voltage convertor (US = 115 volts UK = 240 volts). So yes, I think you do need a power convertor.

If you search the net you may be able to order one.

Power convertered is the problem. The main thing right now, is not to load up your PS2 until you get the correct voltage goin\' thru it. Anything else can fry it in an instance.

I\'m not quite sure where you can get one though and I hate to steer people to other places...but...
Try..

http://www.ebay.com
http://www.google.com  < For information on what it is & where to get one.
http://www.ncsx.com  < - may have one.
http://www.liksang.com  < - -They usually have quite abit of stuff for importers.

Also - you said you got it from over-sea\'s? Where did you get it from? You may want to contact that place and see if they have in stock. It\'s a long shot, but if they sell quite a few imports, they may have what you need.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Thank you all for the help, as it turns out, it WAS the power converter that simply couldn\'t handle the PS2 so i went and got a better one from a local store that deals with PS2s.

Thanks again.
