I\'d buy a HDD if they release updates/bug fixes/new cars and the like free on their official magazines along with playable demo\'s etc...

If I buy something I only want to buy it once. Paying to download a car in GT4 (just for example) is pointless, I\'ll just make one of my existing ones faster instead.

Yes, thats one big problem (remembers Delta Force 2.. *rysa*. Probably the most incomplete game ever to be released.. You had to download the stuff they said would be in the game months after release, and stuff they promised never got released.. bleh)
:(

But HDDs do have several major advantages.. The stuff I listed above :)

I dont know how much the HDD is going to be, but the other day, in Best Buy, I seen an adapter that hooks into the USB port allowing you to use plug and play devices... Mouse, Keyboard, External HARD DRIVE.  If you already have a plug and play HDD, you can use it on the PS2.  I read it and it said almost all plug and play HDD\'s were supported

I hope the News is about the HDD.

It would suck if the new online news was that we are going to have to start paying for online play.

I think it would be cool for demos.  That would be nice to not have to pay 7 or 8 bucks for a mag just to get a demo.

Bah, online gaming in Europe is not going to happen any time soon.

And the HDD could be useful for some things, but if nobody is taking advantage of it on the Xbox where it\'s included with the system, why do you expect it to be any different on the PS2?

PS: Anyone remember what happened to DC online gaming in Europe? Expect something similar.
Whatever

Patching might not be too bad of an idea.. expecially in online games. Good god I wish Sega had the ability to patch their online games so that people couldn\'t exploit bugs or use cheat devices as easily as they did.

On the other hand, I do see the downside of sloppy releases and cheap expansions. The way I see it tho.. is all games are going to have some sorts of bugs in them. That\'s pretty much unavoidable as long as publishers are pushing games out the door and onto the shelf to make money before they\'re even truely done. You gonna think.. there\'s 1000x as many gamers looking for bugs to exploit as there are people on the staff looking for bugs to fix. The gamers have no time limit for their efforts.. developers do.

The difference is.. without a HDD you have to live with the bugs. With one, you don\'t.

Other than that.. it\'s a gimmick. MP3 tracklists, TiVO capabilities, Demo movies.. bah.. that stuff isn\'t needed or IMO, wanted. Sure, being able to surf the net on the DC was novel.. couldda been really nice if they had a HDD.. but in the end it\'s still nowhere near on the level of what a PC is capable of, which is pretty much were I\'ll always go to surf the net. The only other two upsides is more space for saved games and it\'s use for games like Blinx.

Better yet, how can the HD not be a gimmick?  Chances of online gaming hitting the UK is looking very slim and when it does - lord knows when that will be. The only game that requires the HD is FFXI . Where does Sony expect to sell all these HD\'s? There\'s simply no compelling reason to have one or nothing pushing it into owner\'s homes.

Second, if you think games like GT4 and Red FRaction 3 would actually let you download stuff for free, you\'re crazy. There would be some charge somewhere. It\'s the console industry. They\'re use to making money off every little thing.

Wise words from a guy who should know all about companies charging an arm and a leg for minor changes and tweaks to already existing games. ;)

how much are you guys willing to pay for 40 gbytes HDD if it\'s available?

A) $75
B) $50
C) $40
D) $25
E) free
F) Not getting one

Notice:  All are in U. S. dollars.

Me, I am in the category between $25 and not getting one.  If it\'s free, I am sure to be one of the first persons to pick one up.

$25 for a 40GB HDD?  I know Sony won\'t sell it that cheap.

It\'ll probably be at least $75.  Rumors suggest around $80.

The only way you\'ll get it "free" is if Sony does some sort of package deal with a PS2, the HDD, and a game that uses it, say FFXI.  That\'s the only way you\'ll get one free.

Personally, I\'ll get one no matter what the cost.  I\'ll be picking up FFXI as soon as it\'s released.

I just saw an 80 gigabytes HDD for computer selling for $79.99 and it package in a box, not bare unit.
By the time Sony is bring HDD to America, which they claim it might be next Spring, which is about 5 months from now, the price of the HDD for computer will drop some more.
So, $25 might sound too cheap, my guess will be about $40.
