Has anyone played the new NBA Live 2K3, and if so, have they played online.  Is it any good, and last, is there going to be a forum topic and possibly league play with NBA Live (just like with Madden)?

bleh, if there is a league (though I doubt it, seeing the confusion with the madden one) I think it should be a NBA 2k3 one.  Just like Madden is clearly superior to any other football game (IMO), the 2k series is superior, easily, to any other basketball game (again IMO).

Last year I would agree with you that Sega\'s BBall game was vastly superior.  But EA has put a lot of work in improving Live, mostly by totally revamping the gameplay.  By the reviews i\'ve read, freestyle control seems like a brilliant way to controll your player.  I am still going to rent both though and see which I like better before I buy.

Excellent decision.  I think EA got tired of being ownd by Sega.  So I really can\'t wait to see how the new game play works.    Will SEGA have an on-line gaming feature though?

There is nothing on EA\'s website saying it will be online.  Anyone know if it will be?

Okay,

Official review of EA\'s new game.... work work work.  You are going to have to work to get use to the new system.  I mean some things are the same, the offensive and defensive play calling is so much better, the play is faster and more hard core, but whew!!!!.

The online play (from a broadband connection standpoint) is very easy going no lag whatsoever, until you are trying to hit a free throw... I have made one online.  Others are making them, so I guess you have to get the timing down.

There were problems that EA should\'ve done as far as connecting to players online (I wish, in a perfect world, that EA and all gaming companies would create a user interface that is the exact same down all product lines... Madden\'s is superior online and far simpler in design).  Trying to connect to certain players if you are using a router isn\'t working sometimes, I had to unplug my router and had to go in a directly connect to the PS2 in order to play it online.

The new freestyle moves are great, once you get use to them.  I still have a long way to go, but I\'m also 2-0 on online play.  People try to hard to throw up bad shots, I am just more patient and use the clock more to find a shot that works.  Steals are easier, but still something that needs to be worked on with freestyle.  Blocks same way.

Overall out of 10 I would give them a 7.  There are still things that need to be worked out, and if I were counting just the online play, it would be a 4.5.  There are issues to connecting, they should\'ve used whatever they used with Madden, it works fine.

I hope this is helpfull, I still have yet to play any other basketball game, but EA is usually my choice anyway.  Remember it takes time to get the freestyle and new button control down.

Shooting FT\'s in online play is tough...BUT, that is only
in All-Star/Superstar mode. Switch it to Rookie, and it
goes back to being a piece of cake.

Supposedly, EA messed up the Arcade/Simulation settings.
Simulation = Arcade, Arcade = Simulation. I haven\'t made
the switch and tried to play online yet, but I\'ve been reading
that is the ticket...

The online messaging system sucks. I used to think the
"virtual" keyboard on Madden/Socom was bad...but ugh,
this is worse. Takes forever to send a message...

The connection problems are just port problems. If you\'re
using a router (especially Linksys), set the PS2 as a DMZ
(demilitarized zone). It\'ll fix the connecting problems...

So far, I like Live. I haven\'t played 2K3 yet, but I did really
like 2K2/2k1. I\'ve heard that Live is more of the "fun" game,
whereas 2K3 is more realistic/sim-style...

EDIT: Can we get an NBA Live/2K3 forum? Are we ever
gonna get more forums for other online games?

I agree, a Forum for NBA games should be posted... I think one should do the trick for both 2k3 and Live.

Live is great and I got schooled last night twice.  My waiting for a lane to open up tactic doesn\'t work when I play a good defensive team, I couldn\'t get in to shoot.  So I was making bad shots, and even worse, I kept getting the ball stolen on passes.  The stealing in this game (if done correctly) is killer and can really upset a team that passes a lot to find the open man.  Every other time I passed it seemed like it was picked off...  Oh well,

I still really enjoy this game.  Free Throws are difficult on any level if there is a lag, but almost impossible on All Star either way.

bradley,

yeah, lag kills the FTs as well...

I think I\'m 4-3 online. Two of the losses were close, one
was a blowout.

For one, it helps to use even teams. i.e. if they are the kings,
use Dallas. If they are the Wizards, use someone better. =)
It really helps to have a good 3 point shooter (or two). If they
guy is a good defensive player, that usually means they\'ll be
double team. Hit the open man at the 3 point, and you\'ll open
up some of those lanes.

If they\'re playing one on one/zone, I\'m not sure what you can
do. Dump it in the post (make sure it\'s a good pass w/ no one
in between), and use the L1 (I think) to back the guy in. A couple
centers/PFs will just hammer it down once they get close enough...

we\'ll have to schedule a game sometime...

I would like to compete against forum people... it just seems much better competetion, although in basketball it is not as easy to cheese as it is in football, but you know.   I am typically available on Fridays, but this week, I will be at Hooters Judging a St. Paulie Girl contest.... so soon.  Email me sometime and we will play sometime soon.

I have NBA Live 2003. I love it! It\'s fun fun fun! Online play is cool if you can find someone that plays sim style basketball. That is the way I play it. Even though Live is fast break oriented, it can be played slow paced just as easy.

My online name for live is JUMPMAN.  I think I\'m like 2-8 or something. But win or lose I still have a lot of fun with it.

dajo,

Try playing on Superstar mode (online), and it won\'t be
so fast break-ish. More bring it up the court, pass it around,
take a shot...Also, you can\'t break ankles with the freestyle
stick as well.

bradley - i\'ll email ya later today...oh, and you suck for
judging that contest. unless you take pictures. yeah, that\'s
it. ;)
