sorry no-one but .....VICTORY ! :D WOOT !

Naysmith should be made a new Scottish Saint !

Berti Vogts\' for First Minister !

Quote
NAYSMITH\'S DOUBLE JOY FOR SCOTS
Scotland goal hero Gary Naysmith has revealed that the strike that completed a 2-0 win over Iceland on Saturday was a double first.

For not only was it his debut goal for the Scots it was also the first time in his career he had found the net using his right foot.

It was certainly a strike to remember as, with the Scots digging in to keep hold of a lead given to them by Christian Dailly\'s early header, he produced a remarkable shot on the turn to beat goalkeeper Arni Gautur Arason.

Maurice Ross had supplied a cross from the right and the left wing-back, who had caught the Iceland defence off guard by arriving in an unexpectedly advanced position, controlled the ball with his right foot before swivelling to convert the opportunity.

He said: "It\'s the first goal I\'ve scored with my right foot as a professional and it couldn\'t have come at a better time really.

"It was just a spur of the moment thing. I just stuck my leg out to control it and I think I caught the goalkeeper unawares.

"The last goal I scored was 18 months ago."

The Everton midfielder\'s Scotland career has been dogged by injury and the 23-year-old has missed out on twice as many internationals than the eight he has played in so far.

And once again fitness fears are troubling a player who was once bizarrely hurt falling down a manhole while preparing to take a throw in during a Scotland Under-21 international.

Naysmith was hurt in the first half when he became a victim of an uneven pitch. He was stretchered off for treatment on a twisted knee but returned to score that memorable goal.

He said: "I felt something twist and luckily it was nothing major. I have got a bit of swelling behind the knee.

"I just hope it is not too serious so I can get a run in the Everton team. I can\'t expect to keep being picked for Scotland if I\'m not playing for Everton."

The victory was Berti Vogts\' first in a full international as Scotland manager and wiped away the disappointment of only drawing in the Faroe Islands last month.

The German and his players had received a mountain of criticism for that poor performance but it was all smiles on the final whistle in Reykjavik.

Naysmith added: "Berti stuck by the players and this is great for him. It has taken a little bit of pressure off. There is a wee bit of light at the end of the tunnel I suppose."

Captain Paul Lambert, who was outstanding along with full debutants Steven Pressley and Lee Wilkie at the back, was also upbeat.

He said: "It is a fantastic win. We deserved to win the game on a field that was really poor, really heavy and soft. It has put us in a good position."

However, the Scots would perhaps have wanted four points from two away matches at the start of their Euro 2004 qualification quest in a group that Germany expected to win without dropping too many points.

Iceland are in action again on Wednesday, at home to Lithuania, while Scotland\'s next Euro 2004 qualifier is not until next March when Atli Edvaldsson\'s team are the visitors.

And Eidur Gudjohnsen, the Chelsea striker, vowed his side would emulate the Scots.

He said: "I think it is obvious that when a team has had a bad result they want to set the record straight. That\'s what Scotland did and exactly what we will be looking to do."

Gudjohnsen almost provided a 19th-minute equaliser but saw his shot cannon back off the crossbar to safety.

But he conceded that on the day the Scots had simply been superior.

He said: "Everything went wrong - we just didn\'t play well. Scotland deserved it.

"But it\'s not a disaster. It\'s not the result we would have wanted but there are plenty of games left so we will see at the end."

what a night:D

Our boys played like Bravehearts while the English played like nancy boys

If I liked football I\'d come up with some lame comeback.
But even I know the simple fact that Iceland has one of the worst teams ever in football, it\'s like a fact like evolution, sure some people disagree but they can\'t convince people otherwise

That pitch in Bratislava that England played on was terrible. Worst pitch I have ever seen.
