how to link 2 comps?

The shop assistant told me about some usb device but i dunno what it\'s. there are other ways to link my laptop and my old pc? what i need?

He is probably talking about a usb memory stick. You can save files on it and transfer them to another computer. They are small sticks like car key fobs and come in 16mb, 32mb etc. They a basically a floppy disk replacement, as I have noticed that quite a few new laptops now do not have floppy drives.

if yer running XP, you can network the two with just a USB cable

yer bettter off getting a router tho, im sure yer laptop has a NIC

lol.. a good switch, 2 network cards and you\'re set. That\'s what i\'m using anyways. The USB connection is as fast as coax.  If anyone was gonna link 2 comps together using coax. They\'re better off just using usb. (saves em a whole pci slot) At the moment CAP5 is the best to use (imo, for gaming that is). Cap5e which is faster, but only good for a short distance. There\'s also Cap6 and fibre optics which gets alittle too expensive.

PS, a router is for networking different networks together (although alot like a switch)  A switch and hub are for making these networks. A switch is smarter. Doesn\'t send out info to everycomp, just where it needs to go. All you need is a switch or hub if you\'re gonna go cap 5.

You\'d be AMAZED how many companys and people use Coax. I\'m trying to get my d@#Khead mates to move over to cap5. I\'m tired of using Coax/cap5 combo card to do networks with em.

2 NICs + 1 crossover cable = $50
