Vice City impressions?
« on: October 29, 2002, 01:08:48 PM »
Well i haven\'t seen anyone really talking about it (i mean people who got it today) so i thought a thread like this would be a good idea, since us europeans have to wait an extra week or so for it, we would love to hear your opinions about it.

So insert impressions here

I\'m still at work.  I get home in a little over an hour.  I\'ll let ya know what I think after I\'ve played for a couple hours.

The cars handle better. They are, on average, cooler looking and make much better engine sounds. My only gripe about it is I cannot seem to tell them apart by how they handle as well as I could the cars in GTA3. The motorcycles are simply great.

Cops are much harder to avoid. When I get a one star wanted level in GTA3, I rarely ever have to watch my back. Cops are everywhere in Vice City with a one star wanted level. By the way, you immediately get a two star wanted level when you walk into the locker room in the police station :D

I\'m a bit mixed on the visuals. The draw distance is greater, but the graphics seem to be harder on the eyes.

As for the city environment, I wouldn\'t comment on it\'s size just yet, but I actually prefer the atmosphere and look in modern-day Liberty City.

Overall, You would be a fool not to get this game if you own a Ps2. Great stuff.

I have the game sitting next to me right now, but haven\'t played it yet.  I figured I should eat first, cause I won\'t stop to eat when I start playing this bad boy.

Only played for an hour so far.  I had to stop so I could make dinner...french toast...mmmm.  Haven\'t done a mission yet, just been exploring.  Graphics are better, and there\'s a map when you pause that will surely prove useful, complete with "you are here."

The motorcycles are great!  I was on a sportbike for a minute, until I got it stuck (don\'t ask).  The moped is hilarious.  It\'s called the "Faggio".  It\'s a blast to drive, despite the insensitive yet amusing name.  When you back up you have to push it with both your feet.  Also, if you\'re on a motorcycle and you run into a stationary object, you do indeed go flying over the handlebars.  The radio stations are great, too!  Of course, I love 80s music.

Only thing that was bothersome so far was a long loading time, but it\'s a large environment...so I\'ll live.

I tried to rob a jewelry store. I beat down the clerk instantly getting a 2 star wanted level, but I didn\'t get any cash from the register and I couldn\'t get at any of the merchandise. wtf.

Definatly noticable improvements and a vastly bigger game.  This game is everything it was hyped up to be, best part is, cruising around was never more fun!

After playing it for 5 hours....i\'m impressed.  Motorcycles are a blast to drive, but real easy to crash.  Graphics are great and while the framerate isn\'t smooth as silk, at least it\'s consistent.  Vice City is very large (and mostly locked, you only can run around 1/4 of the map at first.)  The map feature is nice when you pause the game.  You can zoom in and out and move around the map to see it in as much detail as you want.

Held up a few stores (hardware, food joint) with a handgun.  To rob a store you can\'t beat down the clerk immediately.  You gotta aim a gun at them (without shooting) until you see your money total increase.  Just completed a cool ass mission with a remote control vehicle of some sort (don\'t want to say exactly what, you\'ll find out when you play).
