I played metroid prime
« on: November 05, 2002, 12:00:15 PM »
I recently played the demo of metroid prime at a local EB, and, from what I played so far, I think this is the reason to own a gamecube this holliday season. I\'m serious. The graphics are so good, they easily top anything the Xbox has to offer (err I dont know about Ps2. I havent played it in like 5 months) Has anyone else played the demo? i\'m gettin this game the day it comes out. I already have it preordered
\"You know back before the war broke out I was a saucier in San Antone. I bet I could collar up some of them greens, yeah, some crawfish out the paddy, yo\'! Ha! I\'m makin\' some crabapples for dessert now, Ya hear! Hell yeah, ha!

Oh, pick me, pick me!

Okay, I played the demo also and I frickin\' love the Metriod series...Well, here I go.

First off, Retro promised something that would  reinvent the FPS wheel and make Metriod actually fit into the genre, well guess what? From the demo, it seems as though the same FPS standards are there with only Samus as an attraction.

Now I know most people are goin\' to go, "but,...but..you can use your scan visor!", well yeah you can and you\'re forced to almost every five seconds. Seriously, within the demo I used the scan visor more times than I can count and a lot of times for things that shouldn\'t of needed (i.e, scan wall - hologram appears, step into hologram to ascend...repeat 10x) .  The enemies look like they was ripped from Halo (once again, from the DEMO).

On the bright side, the graphics sure are pretty..

On that note; it should be noted that I have this game reserved and I won\'t be picking it up. Instead, I\'ll move the reserve over to Metriod Fusion  - which I also played and fell in love with quickly. Thank God for the GBA.

Welp, I guess I\'ve gotta wait for the demo out here then.

How were the controls?  Cumbersome?  Workable?  Great?

Fusion!!

BTW, what is your sig from, LIC?

Gary Jules\' - Mad World

It\'s from the soundtrack of the movie \'Donnie Darko\' .

As for the controls - they are spot on .

For people who plan on buying both Metroid Prime and Fusion...

Once you\'ve beaten Prime(or was it fusion?..), by using the link cable thingy with the GBA, you can get the entire original Metroid game...with saving this time! Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Nice idea...
July 2002: If you had bought $1000.00 worth of Nortel stock one year ago, it would now be worth $49.00. Enron, $16.50 left. Worldcom, $5.00 left. If you had bought $1,000.00 worth of Budweiser beer one year ago, drank it all and turned in the cans for the 10 cent deposit, you would have $214.00. Based on the above, my current investment advice is to drink heavily and recycle.

Yeah. What Lic said. To me it felt like just another fps. Except this FPS demo had alot of holograms, and you have to use the scan feature way toooooooooo much.

How I wish they had made a 2d metroid for the cube. I don\'t care if it was polygons or not. Just a nice long free roaming 2d adventure. I suppose I am going to have to do the next best thing, and buy a tv adaptor for my GBA.

Those cost a fair amount, and are very low quality. You should just stick with the GBA screen and if you\'re bothered by the light "problem" then get a Wormlight(atleast I think its called the wormlight...).

I have thought many times about an afterburner kit. I would still have the same problem though. The screen is too small. If I play it for more than 30 minutes I have a migraine from eyestrain. :crying:

Capcom: I played Golden Sun for 30 hours on that screen. Honestly, I don\'t know how. :) My problem with GBA is more about neck strain from trying to find the perfect light and bending over to maintain it. Fortunately, I got an Afterburner kit and it\'s getting installed over the weekend. A local shop let me try out the Afterburner GBA, and man.. it\'s not that big of an improvement when you\'re in a brightly lit room (as  one would expect) but go into a pitch black room and you\'re in portable gaming heaven. You can see it as bright as day. :)

I could just lie on my comfy bed, in any position.. and see the screen perfectly. I can\'t wait to try it out at home!
