Ode To A Car ~or~ Jus\' Braggin\'... 2
« on: December 16, 2002, 11:37:02 PM »
Yes, it\'s true.  About four weeks ago I bought a new 03 Honda S2000.   w1ngman preceded me in the S2000 cult, but I was actually planning this purchase even before he announced his new car over a year ago.  I\'ve been working toward this for almost two years now.

This car is so freaking awesome, sometimes I don\'t quite believe it.  It\'s so easy to throw it around because it\'s so light, and the transmission is just so sweet.  It\'s a big adjustment for me because I\'ve never owned a roadster before, but Southern California is probably the most friendly place for a convertible, weather wise.  Too bad the weather sucks right now.

That\'s about it.  I\'m just going to be doing this :D for a while.  Check you later.

Nice choiceeeeee!

I raced one the other day, If my car wasn\'t modded, that S2000 would have raped me :(

My co producer has a black one.  Most HP per liter of any engine.

I personally think it\'s too small and the interior is rather loud, but it\'s a fun ass car to drive nevertheless..

Your back window is glass on the 03 isn\'t it?

His is an 01 and it\'s plastic, rubber, whatever.  He has taken great lengths to take care of it and it still looks like poop out the back window.  Hope yours is glass.  I think they all are now.

Give me a couple mods and I\'ll race you any day.  WOOT!!!

Why do people always want to know how much things cost?  Just go to the Honda website and check it out.  You don\'t go much below MSRP and cars like these.  It\'s not like buying an Altima.

Thanks people.  Yes, they changed to a glass rear window with the 2002 model year, so mine has it.  There is still a significant visibility problem when you\'re driving with the top UP.  There\'s a blind spot to the driver\'s left which you can\'t avoid without sticking your head out the window.  Fortunately there\'s a guy in Australia who sells the Honda OEM left hand mirror for RHD cars.  It\'s slightly convex, so it gives a better field of view on the left.  I ordered one, but I haven\'t installed it yet.

Regarding price, I paid a little less than MSRP, and they gave me a very good rate on the financing.  If I had waited a month or two, I think I could have done better, but who knows.  At least I didn\'t pay any steenking markup.  :D

In 01 they were going for way over list.  I think my buddy here paid a couple grand over list and he feels like he saved 10 grand from what the going rate was at the time.

Did you look at the Z4?  That car is bad ass compared to the old Z3\'s..

Or is the S2000 your passion?

I considered every car out there, and test drove quite a few.  I have to say that I never really seriously entertained the Z3 or Z4 for a variety of reasons.  Despite it\'s performance characteristics, I don\'t think I will ever appreciate the appearance of the Z4.  It really looks like a nightmare, and to me the appearance IS an important factor.

What\'s more important though is the pricetag.  I think the S2000 is a much better value than the Z4 or the Boxster.  I really feel that with those cars you\'re paying $10K- $15K more for the badge, which means absolutely nothing to me.  In fact, the badge is a negative incentive for me, because there are SO MANY Porsches and BMWs in this city.  All the new-rich movie industry types buy them as a reflex action, without thinking or caring about what they\'re getting.  You can\'t cross the street around here without tripping over a Boxster.  I like the fact that Honda only sells about 9,000 S2000s in the US each year.

Yeah, I don\'t like the boxter myself.  I hate the single exhaust in the center.  Looks like a butt hole.

Ahh to be single again - or at least not have kids.  Just kidding, I wouldn\'t trade my son in for the world, but a two seater is out of the question.  I am going to have to go Vid\'s route when I buy next year.  The next time I will able to get a car like that is oh about 18 years from now.
