Can you scan slides on a flatbed scanner?
« on: December 17, 2002, 03:43:02 AM »
I have seen this done on a Cannon ad on TV. It looked like a normal flatbed scanner that the guy was using to scan some slides.

Can this be done? If so, how? Does the lid have to be up, or down, or up a bit?

unfortunately u cannot scan slides with a normal flatbed scanner, u\'ll need a special type of scanner like the Acer 620st Prisa (its old but is still great at scanning -ves, slides etc...).

racer in order to scan a slide u need to have an additional light soucre.
like for example in the acer 620st their is a clearbox with some tube lights under the lid.

Put a light behind the slide.  Bam...  You have to scan it at very high rez too since the pic is so small.

Many scanners come with a light source.

So, you just need a very bright light source on top of the slide whilest the scanner is scanning it?

My microtek 4800 scanmaker comes with a lightbar which you attach to the scanner after taking off the lid. This allows you to scan negatives and slides. Imo the output isn\'t all that great but then again it\'s not that expensive of a scanner.

I have another Microtek scanner that has the same attachment.  The quality of the resulting scans is crappy, but it\'s ok if you only need to make low res images.  (You scan in the highest scanner resolution possible, and the resulting image is still pretty small).  Also, you can\'t hardly see the scan preview, so you can\'t make effective color adjustments before the final scan.
