I\'ve seen those books...VERY long.  I cant imagine all 3 in one.  Tolkien wanted all 3 in one.  No way that would work.

I think LOTR is 1000+ pages, Maybe not including the appendices.

I\'m reading the Silmarillion now, it\'s sort of the Bible of middle earth. It tells how the world was created, and the races of elves & men and their purpose. The problem is, it reads like the bible and every other word is a name of a person or place that looks very similar to the previous name...  kinda tiring.

i think when all 3 movies are out and are on dvd in 2004 peter jackson should do a re-edit and make one seamless 12 hour movie i think its possible and it would make one hell of a dvd

I have been reading all Tolkien books many years ago , several times on norwegian... now Im reading the english version of The Hobbit, after that Im going to continue with the 3 other books, but not sure if Im going to read Silmarillion on english, since it was hard enough reading it on my native language.

But it would occupy more than 3 DVDs... and that\'s what I don\'t like of extended versions: to change the disc in the middle of the film. Perhaps for Fall 2004 there are cheap 80 GB DVDs ;)

Well....why not just get all three sets and watch them back to back? You can\'t fit a 10 hour movie into one DVD. :) Heck, it took two DVD discs for the extended version of Fellowship!

Well I just saw it and it was breathtaking.  Peter Jackson has done a fantastic job, I can\'t believe the movie was so long - I didn\'t realize how long until we left.  I didn\'t once look at my watch or get anxious to leave.  One of the best movies IHMO ever.
