Capcom Denies Buyout Rumors
20-DEC-02
In an interview with the Bloomberg news service, Capcom vice-president Heiji Ohshima adamantly denied rumors that his company is in merger or buyout discussions with any company, quelling rumors that Nintendo was about to buy the Japanese publisher.
"We are not engaging in talks with any other company about a buyout or tie-up agreement, and we are not thinking about doing so," Ohshima said in the interview. "Local and international reports that Nintendo is buying our company are a major nuisance to us. We are not the target of a Nintendo buyout; that report is completely baseless."

The idea of Nintendo purchasing Capcom was one of the many so-called "MEGATON announcement" rumors making the the Internet rounds in recent months. The rumor hit its pinnacle when CBS MarketWatch quoted game-industry analysts reporting it on their web site, prompting Ohshima to publicly deny the CBS report.
